@coopbohm1@_chrishaynes I think a very powerful image would be a face to face comic picture of Trump and Ms. Marvel. It would speak to the division but show the correct response which is to face the problem rather than getting entrenched in your views #engl3246
@adlo00 @_chrishaynes I think it's very interesting seeing superheroes in a position of opposing the established government. I think it speaks to the true meaning of what it means to be a "hero" and what it means to have courage. #engl3246
@jessiefrances@_chrishaynes I think this gives people the opportunity to empathize with someone who comes from a different back ground and helps people to "walk in someone else's shoes" and understand where other people can come from #engl3246
@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 It's a hard time for comic book heroes because of the political environment and such an extreme division of the population. It's much easier to send "positive" messages when there is a clear positive message to send that isn't viewed in disgust by someone anymore. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes@cali1147 https://t.co/z6V4g5NP4c This is an interesting article on Captain America in the Vietnam war. Very interesting how they tried to keep him out of a lot of the controversy of the 60's #engl3246
@phki1931 @_chrishaynes@cali1147 I would be very interested to look at what comics like Captain America would look like around a controversial time say like the Vietnam War. Where there was a clear split as to who approved of the war and who didn't. I wonder where Capt. Amer. would have stood? #engl3246
@_chrishaynes Comics/superheroes play a big role in establishing our ethics and morals through entertainment. All of them stress doing the right thing and acting the right way. If this picture were somehow reversed and Ms. Marvel was approving of Trump, it would feel phony #engl3246
@_chrishaynes As far as seeing superheroes rip apart a picture of a standing president, that is new to me. I can see why a character like Ms. Marvel would do something like that to a picture of that particular president #engl3246
@_chrishaynes I think that comics should be representative of the people because they are meant to inspire the people. Popular media is a way for authors/editors etc... to invoke change and progress. #engl3246
@phki1931 @_chrishaynes Many things we use to inspire people can have "dark sides". Kind of like the Jedi and the dark side of the force (I love StarWars). Just because there is a danger of evil on the "dark side" doesnt mean the force cant do some good #engl3246
@phki1931 @_chrishaynes I think that you could make that argument for many other religions as well but in comics like Captain America they're are references of god and christianity. I think that using the positive messages from religion in comics is very useful #engl3246
@_chrishaynes @abno0189 Are comic books available in some sort of an eReading platform? I think that this could be a way for the comic book industry to update and keep their products in the hands of the public. Kind of like how newspapers and magazines have adapted. #engl3246
@MacLife757@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 @B1G_7 I completely agree with this. I think that as America is becoming more visible with social media businesses are making a conscious effort to appeal to more parts of the population and to spread positive representation of everyone. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes @ben_marshall28 @julietw1606@lebe0237 I think it can be very hard for us as white males to try and speculate how we would have felt about idolizing a superhero that didnt look like us because we have never been in that situation. There has always been a white male hero in those comics. #engl3246
@lebe0237@_chrishaynes I agree that everyone can identify with Ms. Marvel because we all want to do good. That's how you identify with heroes in the first place. They inspire the ordinary to be extraordinary. And just like so many other heroes Ms. Marvel started as an ordinary citizen. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes These new marvel superheroes represent the ever-changing nature of America as a nation. America is a blend of different nationalities, genders, and backgrounds. Comic's and popular media are starting to reflect the diversity of America #engl3246
@_chrishaynes Ms. Marvel being the first muslim superhero was a huge step when first published but may be just as, if not more important in our current political climate. This helps shed muslim people in a light of goodness rather than in a negative way which we see so much. #engl3246
