So Much Power, Yet None at All
It must be a special kind of frustration to be William Ruto right now.
The High Court has effectively declared that from Tuesday 11 August he becomes a temporary incumbent. Every decision he or his parliament takes can be challenged and frozen in court.
His party’s billboards are hunted down and vandalized while everything else around them is left untouched. Kenyans have chosen their target with precision.
He can no longer move freely. His days are reduced to hosting carefully curated delegations at State House and spending heavily to manufacture the optics of popularity.
All the formal power remains. The actual authority has already slipped away.
This is a salt shaker.
When you cook your sumptuous food and then realise the salt shaker is empty,
Where will you immediately rush for help?
You will rush to the next-door neighbour.
The one you have been insulting because he doesn't support your favourite politician.
Knock. Knock. Knock!
"Who is there?"
"Hello, it is me, your neighbour. Kindly, would you mind if I borrow your salt shaker? I forgot to buy salt when I was coming from work."
Think about this salt shaker before you abuse someone or demean his tribe because of politicians.
It’s hard to explain our struggles to people who have never lived them. 😔
This is the daily reality for many of our elders in rural Uganda battling severe illness, living in simple mud huts, and still carrying the weight of family on their shoulders.
