There won’t be a continuation of good new music without the crotchets & quavers…this isn’t an ‘either/or’ situation. Music education can be engaging, inspiring, inclusive AND include music theory. Some people forget music is still thriving in some state schools.
We’ve to keep pushing on that. This is music for everyone, not a select few who know their crotchets from their quavers!! That’s boring and naff!! #bbcproms
The Music Department is the heartbeat of any school. The ensembles, rehearsals, concerts, performances, musicals, friendships, expression, and an environment that brings young people together of all ages. If you want a healthy school, then you need a healthy Music Department.
I was reminded of this on the way home from our awards evening tonight. We don’t always get it right but we will always strive to create a space where students can thrive and belong.
