The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has extended his congratulations on the blessed occasion of Eid al-Adha to the Somali people and Muslims around the world.

The Minister of Defence conveyed special greetings to the Somali National Armed Forces serving on the frontlines and along the country’s borders, who stand day and night in defence of the Somali people and the protection of Somalia’s sovereignty.

The Minister also prayed to Allah to grant the Somali people, wherever they may be, peace, prosperity, and lasting development.

The elite Danab Commandos of the Somali National Army carried out a planned operation in Gamboole district, Middle Shabelle region, rescuing nine civilians abducted by Al-Shabaab terrorists and killing five militants, including the ringleader.

The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, met with Prof. Dr Haluk Görgün, President of Türkiye’s Defence Industry Agency, on the sidelines of SAHA 2026 in Istanbul.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in defence and security, capacity building, and strategic areas aimed at enhancing Somalia’s defence capabilities.

A foreign terrorist fighter affiliated with Al-Shabaab, identified as Salaad Macalin Cusmaan Cabdiyow (Salaad Dheere), has been captured in a planned operation conducted by the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) and Ugandan AUSSOM Forces in the Lower Shabelle region.

The individual, who has been part of the terrorist group since 2009, was responsible for orchestrating terrorist activities and planning attacks targeting civilians.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr Abdifatah Abdulkadir Farah, who is leading a delegation from the Ministry of Defence, has concluded a series of working meetings in Ankara, Türkiye, with senior officials of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence and executives of major defence companies, including ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, and MKE.

The Ministry of Defence delegation accompanying the Permanent Secretary on this visit included Directors General, Department Directors, Division Heads, advisers from the Ministry, as well as officials from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Türkiye.
