@m_herbert@duck_willy Totally agree! At this age they can also "forget" commands they already knew really well. Advice I was given is to train the dog in front of you. So if they are struggling go back to basics as if you were first training them even though they "already know this". He's gorgeous π

@AuntThistledown I do the exact same! Currently have an alarm set for 9am just in case I don't wake up in time for a 10am checkout π€¦ββοΈ obviously I did not need it π
@berger_nicky@deane_ag@NZBeefLamb@BeefLambNZ I dont know of the published work but will have a look, see what I find.
My husband did make the point that if NZ ate less meat, wouldn't we export it to somewhere that did? So any emissions assoc would "move" to another country but still exist π€·ββοΈ an interesting concept π€
#SciCommSeptember challenge #4 - favourite fact
Kind of related to my research, but more so to my digestive issues with IBS
Most hard cheeses (e.g cheddar) have little to no lactose in them π§
So can be safely enjoyed by those with lactose intolerance π₯³

Post #2 of #SciCommSeptember - your work/research
I have a PhD in animal science and my research (so far) is in dairy cows
The link below is a summary of my most recent published paper in @jdairyscience that investigated the performance of cows based on the age of their mothers
Mating 15-mo heifers by AB & keeping their heifer calves is a method to increase genetic gain.
This summary is looking at stayability (remaining in the herd, similar to survival) and calving pattern of heifers born from young (2yo) or older (3yo +) dams

It's the 1st (oops 2nd) day of #SciCommSeptember - introduce yourself!
Hi I'm Rhiannon I am based in Hamilton and work 2 jobs in animal science and genetics. In my spare time I communicate science for the Ag and farming sector.
I have a πββ¬ π€΅ and need πππ‘
An interest of dairy farmers is the production and health of the cow. For beef producers, purchasing calves that have good growth and finishing traits is important.
There is a need for identifying what makes a good beef bull for use over a dairy cow.

@ShorttClare@LICnz@crv_nz Not sure if this helps but I have put together a summary of research on this topic of you were interested π
