It’s a wild genre mash-up featuring brutal action, broad comedy, horror, and hopping vampire zombies. It sounds chaotic on paper, but Sammo Hung makes it work effortlessly, proving once again why he’s a master of this style.
Highly recommended for fans of Hong Kong cinema.

The idea of pitting Sherlock Holmes against Jack the Ripper works remarkably well and feels thoughtfully executed. To me, it played like a far superior version of From Hell, which I found rather underwhelming.
Highly recommended.

Recently we watched Murder by Decree (1979), directed by Bob Clark and starring Christopher Plummer, James Mason, and David Hemmings.
This is a really strong film with excellent performances and confident direction.

The acting is mostly strong; the only slightly odd performance comes from the actress playing the sister. Shatner also shows a more restrained and subtle side of his acting here.
I can recommend it if you enjoy slow-burning horror with a strong focus on character.

Tonight we watched Incubus (1966), starring William Shatner.

The atmosphere, sets, and Lugosi’s presence make it a true gem of classic horror.
I can easily recommend it to fans of classic Universal-style horror.
