This is why we always must remember that university police forces are not there to stop the likeliest crimes on campus: sexual assault by students and embezzling by administrators.
The online discourse around this just shows that a lot of people fundamentally do not understand consent and responses to trauma at all. To me, this makes it even more clear that students should have required classes on these topics. Not an online module or an hour long event
@MassJumbo This wouldn't restrict student gatherings, nor would it lead to any policing of student protests.
As a former Student Organizer, we didn't ask permission to protest - we just did it.
This is about protecting students as Cornell fails to do so.
As a student myself, I think not having events for some time is a small price to pay for a reformed title 9 process and accountability from campus administration and police, who failed this woman and failed all survivors. Most students I’ve spoken to are supportive of this policy
Ithaca’s Council will be voting on a moratorium on event permits for all student events, on and off-campus, until Cornell reviews its sexual violence procedures and publishes new ones that actually protect students. We stand with Jane Doe and call on Cornell to do better.
We issue event permits after reviewing their plans (fire evacuation, de-escalation, etc) and deeming them safe. Clearly students are not safe at these events and the city cannot - in good conscience - accept permit applications until Cornell has a plan for protecting students
Hey so Cornell police report logs show there was another rape reported September 23rd, 2026. Also in August, Cornell's medical school/academic medical center agreed to a settlement totaling over $1 billion because one of their urologists was sexually assaulting patients and they failed to handle it.
This has been, and stays being, a problem that is central to Cornell and how it's ran.
Whoever Jane Doe from the Cornell gang rape lawsuit is —
What an incredibly strong person. Seriously. Every detail is more harrowing. And she still persists. And is standing up for herself. What a role model.
A lot of center-left wannabe pundits are trying to make Fran's loss about DSA "not having the juice", but their biases are showing.
DSA launched an unknown state rep from single digits to a stone's throw from the governorship. Fact is, no other group or individual could do that.
Francesca Hong went from a little-known Assemblymember to within 4,000 votes of becoming the Dem nominee for governor. The work of @DSAMadison@mkedsa@dsagreenbay and others was incredible.
The establishment seeks discredit us because they are afraid of what we'll do next.
Today we, a supermajority of Registered Nurses at Cayuga Medical Center, are proud to announce that we are forming a union with @CWAUnion and have formally requested voluntary recognition from
@cayugamed .
This holiday season, #WeAintBuyingIt. Join the movement and refuse to shop at Target, Amazon, or Home Depot (and Starbucks!!) from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday.
Our money has power. If corporations side with authoritarianism, we won't side with them at the register.
Santa Fe is now the first city to tie the minimum wage to the cost of rent.
The Santa Fe City Council voted to raise its minimum wage from $15/hr to $17.50 by 2027 — but they also added another provision.
Future increases will factor in inflation, and the price of housing.
