@MushtaqBilalPhD This is what happens when congress can't agree on a budget. They need 60 votes and they only have 55. US scientists need to encourage their
Congressman to vote yes on a budget.
I never vilified cholesterol. I study cholesterol, I think its one of the most important molecules in the body. It drives neuronal excitability, a proper heart beat, good emotions, bad emotions, and yes inflammation. Cholesterol is central to an inflammatory response. And inflammation is good until it becomes chronic. So again I'm not vilifying it. But people need to understand that cholesterol is a central regulator of inflammation. And too little or too much in the diet can be bad. I'm happy to go through the data, its very clear.
@ValerieAnne1970 A focus on blood cholesterol has been a hindrance to the science. The blood is simply a transport system. Overtime it says little about what the actual levels of cholesterol are in the plasma membrane of cells, where it actually matters.
I respectfully disagree. At a molecule level an inflammatory response is not possible without cholesterol and saturated lipids. The cholesterol activates the hydrolysis and release of inflammatory cytokines by clustering them with their hydrolytic enzymes. This review explains the process. https://t.co/lAof2UWmaR
I think positional activation is more powerful than allosteric activation alone. A change in position allows for the integration of many signals only after activation.
For example, if the signal for delay is in one compartment and the enhanced activation is in the other compartment, then when the neurotransmitter causes a shift it can get both outcomes. Delaying activation and enhancing activation with a single allosteric activator is more difficult to evolve. Its easy if the channel changes position.
Our most recent study shows how brain cholesterol from astrocytes causes hyper-excitability in Alzheimer's neurons this is a new paradigm in excitability. Congrats Zixuan its great work. https://t.co/cfvIvu4VTB
