As chairman of the @MoCoCouncilMD housing committee, I led my colleagues to enact historic reforms on housing policy — outlined here

Lately I’ve been thinking the point of politics is just justifying growth to a skeptical public.
People say they don’t want growth—new buildings replacing old ones, new industries replacing the old, even new people—but they do. Getting people to swallow it is the whole game.
🧵: With Maryland early voting underway, we wanted to remind you why @Andrew_Friedson is worthy of your vote for Montgomery County Executive. He’s demonstrated again and again his unwavering commitment to making the county a more affordable, prosperous place. 1/8
Left-NIMBYs think that blocking new apartments stops gentrification.
What actually happens: new demand is redirected to the existing housing stock. Instead of living in new apartments, rich newcomers buy up old homes and displace renters.
@GaryWinslett@mattyglesias It isn't necessary for homes to be off the grid for your argument to be correct; if we have a clean grid and EVs, suburban lifestyles are as climate friendly as urban. The choice is more about lifestyle, job access, community.
It's obvious that pulling out of the Iran Deal was a catastrophic decision by Trump. Yet that decision got far less media and political scrutiny than the Deal itself.
Section 901 of the ROAD to Housing Act would block ~72,000 new rental units every year by effectively halting build-to-rent construction. A harmful provision that is undercutting a landmark housing bill.
Glad to see @RepJoshHarder + the Build America Caucus push for a fix!
DC's economy has been wrecked by the Trump administration. Any investments that you want in people's lives will cost money. In order to have the DC we seek, you have to grow it. It isn't a matter of being a devotee to business. It's Econ 101.
@AdamPagnucco After accusing Hans of sales-pitching and ignoring science, the author paints even organic fill as somehow hazardous. Hans advocates coconut husk fill. What does the science say about that? From the author’s own citation:
DC’s highly qualified workers can’t find jobs: ‘What is happening?’
Washington DC has the highest unemployment rate in the US

This is why the stakes of the mayoral race are so high. We need a mayor who understands the need to grow the economy without federal support, the need to attract business and investment, and the need to keep families in D.C. with good schools and low violent crime.
1. Kids can't play: grass fields close after rain. Parks cancelled 2 weeks of grass field permits in March!
2. Kids can't play: MCPS can't let PE classes use grass fields.
3. Community can't play: MCPS can't permit community teams to use grass fields https://t.co/Veu8cpDXQX
Today a Council majority 6-5 voted for our kids and their ability to play sports, PE, outdoor recreation. Thank you 1 @Andrew_Friedson 2 @ShebraEvans 3 @dawn_luedtke 4 Natali Fani-Gonzales 5 @KatzForCouncil 6 @CM_Sayles your vote is noted, appreciated, and supported
Don’t shut down kids’ access to sports and physical activity.
That’s what’s at stake in Montgomery County right now.
I wrote about it here: https://t.co/0qaFRwS8nA
@hansriemer Amen! As any Montco baseball parent knows, you will end up playing many games in NoVA -- even against Montco teams -- because of the lack of facilities here. We miss you on the Council, @hansriemer!

We can improve safety and protect access:
✔️ Eliminate crumb rubber
✔️ Use organic infill
✔️ Build high-access fields
But don’t take away the opportunity to play.
Don’t take away their teams.
Don’t take away their P.E.
Don’t take away their chance to play.
Don’t shut down kids’ access to sports and physical activity.
That’s what’s at stake in Montgomery County right now.
I wrote about it here: https://t.co/0qaFRwS8nA
This is also an equity issue.
Girls’ sports, adaptive athletics, and students without access to private clubs depend on school fields.
When access shrinks, opportunity shrinks—first for those who need it most.
