Ek en my buurman het elkeen R500.

Ek vat my R500 en koop ‘n paar goeie hoenders by die ou by die taxi rank. Daai hoenders begin lê. Ek verkoop party eiers by die spaza shop en by die mense in die straat, en hou ‘n paar vir myself en die kinders. Met die geld van die eiers koop ek nog twee hoenders. Daai twee lê ook. Binne ‘n paar weke het ek ‘n hele klomp hoenders. Ek begin nou eiers verkoop aan die kafee, die shebeen en selfs aan ‘n paar Somali shops. Kort voor lank het ek ‘n ordentlike hoenderbesigheidjie aan die gang. Ek maak ‘n lewe, betaal my rekening by die Spar en kan selfs ‘n bakkie op skuld koop. Sukses.

My buurman vat sy R500 en koop ‘n groot pizza by Roman’s, ‘n six-pack Black Label en ‘n paar packets chips. Hy eet en drink alles daai selfde aand saam met sy tjommies terwyl hulle soccer kyk. Die volgende oggend is die R500 weg. Niks oor nie. Geen eiers, geen hoenders, niks wat geld maak nie. Hy sit nou en wag vir maand-end.

Vraag: Het ek bygedra tot my buurman se verlies?

Natuurlik nie. Hy het self gekies om alles op te vreet en uit te drink in plaas van om iets te bou. My hoenders het nie sy geld gevat nie. Hy het dit self opgebruik.
