Please, read books. Not just captions, or carousel posts, or what made it to the top of your feed. Read books. Long ones. Complex ones. You cannot build a mind with weight on the back of social media ephemerals. Intellectual depth demands patience.
Doctor on duty beaten until he sustained serious injuries and died some time after. Assailants still walking free. Public asking to know what he did before he got assaulted.
I hope everyone is watching.
As I've always said.
Nigerian patients are not your friend.
See them as client's, things to be fixed and kindly move on.
No dey do any over familiarity.
Do your job description and move on.
Nigerians hate it's doctors.
The first step to solving the healthcare problem of Nigeria is to ensure that we optimise primary care.
There is no reason why a tertiary centre like an FMC or a Teaching hospital should be seeing cases of malaria or URTI.
Our 'emergency services' need to be equipped to manage emergencies right from the point of the emergencies happening to the point of treatment.
There is absolutely no reason why tertiary hospitals in Nigeria should always have faulty MRI and CT scan machines. Sometimes, they can't even do ordinary X-rays
Finally, out-of-pocket payment for health is not sustainable. In the same way that the government collects taxes, it can collect health insurance contributions and make it compulsory.
These things are not rocket science, I guess, but as always, I will think the lack of political will and zero patriotism on the part of us as the people is a huge contributor to all of the challenges we have in our great country.
We have the numbers, and I believe we gave the required resources to make things work.
End of rant!
Now just imagine it was a doctor that beat a patient to death?
You don't even have to imagine it because it happend recently when that doctor beat the lady in labour.
The internet was in an uproar with everyone giving doctors a middle finger.
He got suspended and sentenced to prison.
But now that patient relatives beat a doctor for over 20 minutes and he died much later, there's no outrage.
No justice.
The attackers are walking free.
Some godforsaken rodents are even saying this is what we deserve.
You all deserve your evil government.
Useless country.
Useless people.

I’ve seen over 4 doctors of different nationalities on SM this week alone deciding either not to do residency after med school or quitting clinical practice.
Most of them are going into Medical Economics & Financing, Healthcare MBA, Medical Planning & Management.
I get it. Not everyone must be clinical .
If it’s possible to get a bit of healthcare finance and management , please do. You’ll thank yourself later.
In the last three weeks we've lost three doctors.
A consultant to lassa fever.
A resident to a pregnancy complication and now
A house officer to patient assault.
Nothing on the timeline.
Nothing on the news!
No freaking outbreak!
And I'm not surprised.
A thousand doctors could die and people would move on as if it's normal.
We put our lives on the line but nobody gives a shit about us, as our lives is being treated as expendable.
Something has to give.
No vex my sister.
But pity is too.
Many of these ladies no dey hear word.
They'll come to us for the first time in labour without any history of antenatal care.
Many don't remember their last menstrual period.
Experience has taught us you don't just stick your fingers in people's privates anyhow.
For instance, if an overeager doctor goes to exam a woman in labour and it turns out to be something called major placenta previa, that doctor is done for.
He'll be lucky not to lose his license.
So many times when we send patients to you in labour, it's not completely our fault.
No vex abeg.
the thing about mirroring people’s behaviour (back to them) is that they still won’t recognize themselves in it. they’ll only focus on what you’re doing to them—even though it’s exactly what they’ve done to you.
