Skyr is minimally processed

I recommend using the NOVA scale, it's a great way to figure out if your food is clean or not, and essentially if you should be eating or not

Just take a pic and ask AI what NOVA scale your food is

I generally flat out avoid eating from groups 3 and 4 nowadays (except cheat days once in a while ;))

What's interesting is that a lot of the food that used to be NOVA 1 (unprocessed) a few decades ago has now become NOVA 4 (ultra processed) due to inflation

The reason is that unprocessed food is cheap and boring and hard to market, so you can't make much profit on it. A steak is a steak and it costs roughly the same everywhere. But if you sell it as

You can add a beautifully designed label, market it in ads, and all the stuff you add it (salt water, coloring, additives) to increase the weight, so you can charge much more

Selling ultra processed food is a much better business to be in than selling unprocessed food (boring and no profit margin)

An example is a type of meat my parents used to eat in the Netherlands, it was unprocessed then, and is now sold as ultra processed full of preservatives, emulsifiers, coloring and additives, and my parents have no idea because it looks roughly the same. It makes them sick though

Also yogurt, I grew up and it was just you know, yogurt, fermented milk, classified as NOVA 1 unprocessed. But modern yogurt isn't that anymore. A premium brand I used to buy called OIKOS by Danone, used to have 2 ingredients: milk and fermentation bacteria. Now it's some milk, a bit of cream, a lot of milk powder (with dubious origins) and fermentation bacteria to save money but the price went up! And that's the plain one. The flavored yogurts are full of artificial sweeteners, emulsifiers, additives etc.

So you can't really trust your eyes anymore to judge if food is clean or not, because most of it has been turned into processed or ultra processed to save money and/or market to you to sell for a higher price

When in doubt, try the NOVA scale

I think I know why @balajis prefers to describe it as an island near Singapore:

-Well, it's technically an island located right next to Singapore.
-The island is a Special Economic Zone , making it more globally integrated.
-Singapore is known as Southeast Asia's financial and technology hub.
-When people think of Malaysia, they think of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, which is about a 6 hr drive from the island. Singapore, on the other hand, is only around 50 mins away.
-Living on the island feels more connected to Singapore than to much of the rest of Malaysia. (For this you need to experience living there)

Regardless of whether he says Malaysia or "near Singapore," I don't think it's a big deal to the people he's trying to attract but it's better for first impression.
