On the other hand, it’s likely to create a lot of hardship for local residents, create artificial scarcity leading to spiralling of prices. A more innovative solution of reducing crowding near grocery stores could possibly be to allow them open all 24 hrs.

The expected scramble for groceries on one day of the week, is likely to defeat the very purpose of social-distancing it is possibly seeking to achieve.
