Hello, I'm Happy Steve (@Happy-Steve) as I spend most of my days around Chew Valley Lake or Blagdon Lake! Working for @BristolWater I make the best of the lakes
A splendid sunset at Chew this evening, made all the more splendid by the sight of 55 Great White Egrets flying past it to roost.
Also Garganey, Spotted Redshank, Marsh Harrier, 2 Curlew Sands, 28 Dunlin, 26 Little Egrets, 10 Cattle Egrets (etc...)
Not often you see a sight like this at Chew
On a couple of occasions they bunched up and rose over the lake as if looking to leave. I manged a few shots and counted them on the screen at home. Although I think I may have missed a few out of the frame, both returned counts of 156
We know it's sunny, but please #BeWaterAware
Unfortunately, we've seen an increase in visitors to our lakes over the last few weeks, but our reservoirs are not swimming pools and are not safe to swim or paddle in.
Please help our NHS, don't swim in the reservoirs.
The car parks are closed so unless you are a local resident out for your daily exercise, you should not be at the reservoirs and you definitely shouldn't be swimming in them.
Helpful diagram:
We know it's warm out, and everyone's getting a bit fed up but please think of our overworked NHS staff before you visit our reservoirs.
They're extremely unsafe to swim in and could lead to a horrible accident.
Please, be safe and enjoy your weekend ☀️
