@ElRealesVikram Do u know she also holds stake in the so called company GIVA! So yes she is equally to blame and a small time star may not have a choice but stars who are supposedly famous do have a choice- so yes she is to blame #boycottgiva#boycottkritisanon
1. What's wrong with the Giva ad?
Nothing you see on TV/advertisement or/big screen, especially in big budget projects, is innocent or accidental
The Giva ad continues a broader trend in how film-entertainment and ad industries have treated cultural sensitivities of the two majority communities very differently for years - something Gems of Bollywood has exposed so clearly
Look at the way popular culture has marketed Hindu festivals for years. For instance, check any compilation for suggestions for Diwali playlist:
“Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai”
“Let’s Nacho”
“Tamma Tamma Again”
But typical suggestions for Eid playlist:
“Noor-e-Khuda”
“Maula Ali”
“Kun Faya Kun”
Typical media suggestions for Diwali outfit ideas these days: sexualised styling - cleavage, revealing blouses, familiar Bollywood glamour
Typical outfit suggestions for Eid: Rich and covered
This means that they know what cultural sensitivity looks like, what a family gathering looks like, what sanctity of a festival looks like
But they apply it only where they want
The test of their intention is simple. Look at the image attached. Imagine her holding a plate for Iftari and the text saying Eid. Will any brand ever run such an ad?
2. Are these ads really made to increase sales during Rakhi?
The primary purpose of such an advertisement is not to sell jewellery for Rakhi. Conduct a market survey. Show consumers the ad and ask them whether the imagery is prompting them to buy Giva jewellery on Rakhi for their sisters. I doubt the answer would be overwhelmingly yes
Modern advertising works at a deeper level than simply saying buy this product. It is often aimed at shaping long-term attitudes
When the same kind of imagery is repeatedly used around certain festivals, weddings and family occasions, it leads to normalisation of a particular culture
Much of it seems to be aimed at creating a society where every aspect of a woman's life is sexualised. I would say it is the same mindset that wants to legalise adult men having sex with schoolgirls
3. How should the public respond?
Stop treating these celebrities as icons and withdraw your interest from them
The same actress as in the ad did Thumkeshwari item number and then pretended to be Ma Sita on screen - until we vehemently opposed it, ran a campaign, people responded and the movie bombed
Reject them from every aspect of your life where you have a choice
You'd expect an Indian restaurant to know what India looks like. Apparently not. Even worse, they've printed the incorrect version on their hand towels too 🤦♀️
Awkward moment after India's Commonwealth Games success...At a celebratory dinner in Glasgow, boxer Lovlina Borgohain objected to an inaccurate map of India displayed on napkins and outside the restaurant called- 'Mister Singh's India - The Home of Curry'
The version entirely omitted the North-East and did not correctly depict Jammu & Kashmir. Lovlina who is from Assam urged the restaurant to withdraw and correct it
Everyone remembers the plane that went off the runway at Kozhikode, fell into a valley and broke in two. What most people never registered is the strangest fact about that night. It did not catch fire.
That is the only reason more than a hundred and seventy people walked away from it.
His name was Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe.
He was fifty eight, and he had spent his whole life around aircraft. He came out of the National Defence Academy at the top of his course and took the Sword of Honour from the Air Force Academy in 1981. He flew fighters.
Then he became something rarer, an experimental test pilot, one of the small number of people whose job is to fly aircraft nobody yet knows are safe.
In the early 1990s, he crashed.
He was in hospital for six months. His skull was injured in several places. For most people that is where a flying career quietly ends, and nobody would have thought less of him for it.
He passed the medical tests again and went back to flying.
He served twenty one years in the air force, retired as a Wing Commander, and joined Air India in 2005. By 2020 he had over ten thousand hours in the air and had landed at that particular airport twenty seven times before.
On the seventh of August 2020, he was flying the Dubai to Kozhikode service. It was a repatriation flight, bringing Indians home during the pandemic, and there were a hundred and ninety people on board. It was raining hard. Kozhikode has a tabletop runway, built on a plateau, with a drop at the end.
The aircraft overshot, went over the edge, fell about thirty five feet and broke into two pieces.
Ten years earlier, at Mangaluru, the same airline had overshot the same kind of runway. That aircraft exploded. A hundred and fifty eight of the hundred and sixty six people on board died.
At Kozhikode, there was no fire.
Twenty one people died, including both pilots. Everyone else lived. Pilots around the world looked at that outcome and understood what it meant about the last minutes in that cockpit.
He was a man who had already been broken once by an aeroplane and had chosen to get back into one anyway. On his last flight, he was bringing his countrymen home.
@ronniedez@filmsandstuffs Issue is her acting and wardrobe - of course the face is also not good at all - Anushka Shetty, Nayantara would have been way better option…. If u making this a debate about north and south then Ranbir kapoor is North Indian and he looks horrible as Shri Ram!!
@RoseTint4 Your looks have nothing got to do with being insecure. It always depends upon the person, (irrespective of the gender) love you or not, or how secured he or she makes you feel
A spectacular performance by Jhandu Kumar, who has opened India’s medal tally at the #CWG2026 by winning a Bronze in the Men’s Heavyweight Para Powerlifting event! Congratulations to him. A historic feat at the 2026 World Junior Squash Championship.
Proud of Anahat Singh for winning the Gold Medal and becoming the first Indian squash player ever to win the World Junior Championship title. This accomplishment will further popularise squash among the youth.
