The Red Sea was not Ethiopia’s boundary somehow lost in 1993. It was and remains the boundary of the people who never left it.
What most citizens of modern Ethiopia don’t seem to understand is that they have nothing to do with the history of the Red Sea, Adulis, or Axum. The people who lived by the Red Sea in ancient times are still there. Nothing was taken from anyone. We are the people of this sea and these lands.
What is called ancient Ethiopia is the Ge’ez civilization of the modern-day Tigrayan highlands and the Eritrean highlands and coast. Modern Ethiopia is a later state that carries the same name. The ancient culture centered on Adulis and Axum never disappeared. The people who lived there are still there. We speak Tigrinya and Tigre, the living heirs of Ge’ez, in Eritrea and Tigray. We never left.
The seat of power drifted south over the centuries, far from Adulis and Axum, while the people and coastline stayed exactly where they were. Sharing a name does not make the ancient civilization modern Ethiopia. It doesn’t grant modern Ethiopia any claim to the Red Sea, and certainly not a greater claim than the people who have lived there since ancient times and still do.
The only time modern Ethiopia had direct access to the Red Sea was between 1952 and 1991. That control by the invading force was rejected by the rightful owners of the Red Sea and resulted in a decades-long conflict to expel modern Ethiopia from Eritrea.
🇪🇹’s Red Sea campaign isn’t about port diversification it signals intent to invade a sovereign state.🇪🇹 already has sea access; this rhetoric is normalizing territorial claims and preparing public opinion for aggression against 🇪🇷.
Access can be negotiated. Sovereignty cannot.
It’s been 28 years since Eritrea under PFDJ entered an indefinite state of emergency. Maintaining that state has cost Eritrea far more than any losses enemies could inflict.
Things have now changed. No credible immediate dangers remain to justify PFDJ’s indefinite national emergency.
In Ethiopia, TPLF has become PFDJ’s best partner, and PP is a non-threat. The US is now friendly with Eritrea.
It is time to open the economy, restore freedoms of movement, speech, press, and association, limit national service and state interventions, release all extrajudicial prisoners, and fully honor the Constitution by allowing multiple political voices to operate freely.
This is a rare moment of global flux. Eritrea must seize it for rapid economic growth, the return of its diaspora, and state modernization. Missing this window may mean waiting decades for another.
Eritrean-owned companies now dispersed across the continent must be allowed to lead development. Parastatals should be fully privatized.
For the nation’s long-term success and the survival of our ancient civilization, PFDJ must let go and allow genuine change to take root. There is no other alternative.
108 Eritreans are missing after being forced off two buses near the Afar–Eritrea border.
They were reportedly told to walk to the border instead of being formally handed over. Along the way, armed groups abducted many of them.
Everyone, including Ethiopia itself, claims to fear war between Eritrea and Ethiopia, yet all current escalation is coming from the PP.
At this point, PP appears to be pursuing its current course for only one of two bad reasons. Either it is acting under Emirati pressure to escalate tensions in pursuit of illegitimate coastal access, or it sees no viable exit from its internal crisis and is drifting toward war as a form of political suicide.
However, if PP were serious about avoiding conflict, it could begin by ending its reckless Red Sea rhetoric and pursuing economically reasonable, mutually respectful access to Eritrean ports. More importantly, it must go on record affirming Eritrean sovereignty and retract its repeated denials of it. As long as Eritrean sovereignty is denied, Eritrea is objectively placed in a state of confrontation whether the PFDJ seeks war or not. Denying a state’s sovereignty is the clearest act of hostility. Any government in Eritrea would be constitutionally compelled to prepare for war once a neighboring state denies its sovereignty or territorial integrity.
An immediate concrete step toward stability would be for the Ethiopian prime minister to demand physical demarcation of the border in accordance with the EEBC ruling. Anything short of respecting the final and binding border ruling keeps the region in permanent tension. Peace does not emerge from vague accusations or strategic ambiguity. It comes from clarity, recognition, and adherence to agreed legal frameworks.
ETHIOPIA — The Abiy Ahmed regime is busy accusing Eritrea of backing rebel groups. Turns out the same regime is bankrolling anti-Eritrea rebels right on its own soil.
Accusations are cheap when the receipts are in your own pocket.
Calling me “pro-regime” is lazy.
I oppose Abiy Ahmed’s regime because it has been openly threatening my country for the last three years, that comes before internal politics.
I’ve never denied Eritrea needs serious reforms: a constitution, parliament, and an open economy for investors. I want all of that.
But be honest, how do you carry out deep reforms when your country is under constant threat from successive Ethiopian regimes?
Opposing external aggression does not mean endorsing the status quo. Two things can be true at once.
Nation-Building Is Hard. Harder When You Evict the Builders.
#Eritrea's nation-building efforts are undermined as its development priorities clash with the reality of skilled citizens fleeing the country in large numbers.

@Nebsi2@saayEritrea This guy sows hatred and acts like he's one of us.
And then he insults us, calling us government supporters.
Just because we don't support his Blue Revolution, which threatens our sovereignty.
‘EVERYONE DEFENDING ERITREA IS A DEMON,’ PP claims through hired online propagandists.
I welcome this sign.
Their desperation is peaking, paying this little girl or another to save them with an online tantrum.
The thread lists every propaganda angle PP believes can be used, including religious terminology. It seems the items listed were meant for separate tweets, not a single thread, but they likely aren’t paying the account enough to care.
Welcome the stupidity and contradiction as reflections of PP’s state of mind.
For eighty years, Eritrea has been the sweetness that turns to poison in the mouths of misguided Ethiopian leaders. If Haile Selassie, Mengistu, and the TPLF couldn’t seize the Red Sea or subdue Eritrea by force, what makes the Prosperity Party think it can? It is the weakest government Ethiopia has ever seen. Divided, incoherent, unintelligent, and led by impostors who mistake noise for strategy. Each predecessor was more powerful and organized, yet died shouting slogans about Eritrea and its Red Sea. All would have ruled considerably longer had they not chased their Eritrean illusion.
Ethiopia is landlocked but so is Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi,South Sudan etc. Landlocked countries dont seek outlets to the sea by territorial acquisition. Negotiate with neighbours for outlets!!!!
#Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed gave a speech on 9.17.25 at an event organized for the launch of his book “Synergy State” (የመደመር መንግሥት), the fourth in a series of “synergy” books. This video is excerpted from his speech, focused on relevant parts about the Red Sea.
Urgent Warning of Imminent War in the Horn of Africa Fueled by Ethiopian Claims on Eritrean Territory and Preparations for Forceful Acquisition

After months of blunt rhetoric and openly threatening neighbors with yet another devastating war, @PMEthiopia have instructed his war generals to prepare “war plans”. As of today’s meeting, “the declaration of war” is completed. Multiple sources from #Ethiopia are confirming that @PMEthiopia have ordered his generals to march to #Eritrea. International community cannot scape from this. As we have stated over and over again, Eritrea will defend itself with full force and act swiftly.

🚨 @AmnestyEARO@hrw — TPLF militants, masked like ISIS, are committing atrocities in Raya that may amount to crimes against humanity.
In a leaked audio, Gen. Weldejewergis asks Col. Tinsae why he didn't answer his phone.
His reply: "We were busy beating the people in Raya all night."
