SUPPORT AKPS. GIVE SHUHAILY A FAIR HEARING.

Following The Star’s report on the KLIA confrontation, I stand in support of Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain & AKPS’s efforts to strengthen our border security. One disputed incident should not erase the agency’s enforcement record or determine its chief’s future before a fair investigation.

In May 2025, AKPS reported detaining 25 foreign nationals attempting to leave Malaysia following suspected immigration irregularities. Four officers were also under investigation for alleged "counter setting"-facilitating clearance without proper procedures. This shows why scrutiny within the enforcement system matters.

By late September 2026, AKPS reported seizures exceeding RM265 million nationwide. At KLIA, it has been coordinating targeted screening, intelligence & K9 operations while detecting repeated attempts to smuggle cannabis out of the country. That work deserves recognition & continued support.

The CCTV disclosure demands serious answers too. AKPS has confirmed that the circulating footage originated from KLIA Terminal 1’s surveillance system. Who accessed it, who copied it, & was its release authorised? Does the circulating clip show the complete sequence? Footage from airport security systems must have accountable access & handling.

According to AKPS, the two individuals were outside the operational team & recorded the questioning without permission. Their authority to enter & record must be examined alongside Shuhaily’s response. Every party’s conduct deserves scrutiny.

Personally, I am concerned about possible backstabbing or an attempt to undermine his leadership. Tougher enforcement threatens the interests of those profiting from illegal activity. That makes possible sabotage worth investigating, although no evidence presently establishes that a cartel or powerful individual orchestrated this leak.

I do not want Malaysia to lose a committed enforcement leader through trial by social media. Shuhaily’s willingness to lead operations personally & confront weaknesses in the system deserves a fair assessment.

Supporting him does not place him above the law. Preserve the full recordings, investigate the confrontation impartially, & examine the CCTV disclosure with equal seriousness.

The govt must ensure that accountability is upheld while AKPS’s enforcement work continues with full backing. Our national gateway needs strong leadership, disciplined officers & the resolve to confront wrongdoing wherever it occurs.
