This is rapidly developing into a national crisis- adding to the profound generational inequities which already bedevil Britain. Working class kids have long not had the support they needed as the mass employment industrial world disappeared. Will we repeat the mistake with graduates? https://t.co/5zdjwZ4aP6
Oh shut up. This is such complete and utter BS. Anyone who took those steps in life wouldn’t neglect to buy health insurance if they didn’t get it through work. Or they’d be on Medicare. I don’t know if any health insurance that would “clean out life savings” in 5 months, unless they were saving a dime a week.
New study shows the stress of being poor and struggling to pay bills causes long-term brain damage. They programmed the public to fear socialism to deflect from the fact that capitalism is destroying our nervous systems and damaging our brains all to make the rich even richer.
New data from the AFL-CIO finds the average CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 2025 was a gobsmacking 312-to-1.
And that's without factoring in Elon Musk's record-breaking $158B pay package.
CEO pay wasn't always wildly out of control. Here's how we can rein it back in.
No it isn't, it's because Arday was black. If Arday was white, the affair may have made the Times Higher Educational Supplement and the Guardian education section but that would have been it. The man was hounded to his death due to the colour of his skin.
This poor guy hounded by the media and the right till he took his life. For what? Plagiarizing a dissertation that all of three people will read? Meanwhile the billionaires and bankers are busy destroying the economy and murdering nature. The world is completely upside down.
When I kept seeing the issue discussed on the TL & on the front pages of all British media channels, I started to wonder what happened, only for me to find out it's a plagiarism issue. The media coverage made me think he was involved in something that threatened national security
This whole thing is breaking my heart. Jason Ardy faced relentless bullying and harassment, far disproportionate to his ‘crime’. Let’s face it, he faced this because he’s black. RIP Jason and I really feel for his family. They must be devastated 😞
To the bad faith “So it shouldn’t have been covered at all?” brigade. You know that’s not the point. The point is that it shouldn’t have been covered in a wildly disproportionate manner, it shouldn’t have been subject to breaking news alerts, there shouldn’t have been scores of sneering columns and dirt digging, there shouldn’t have been TV discussions in which right wing rent-a-gobs were given free rein to spout thinly-veiled racism, it shouldn’t have gone on for weeks, and it shouldn’t have been ignored that there was a fallible human being at the centre of it, or that we’ve been here with others before. The sheer amount of coverage, and the tenor of much of it, was clearly not in the public interest and points to a profoundly broken media environment.
Stupid people don't understand this is about £500 extra a month after taxes.
That's £125 weekly. Assuming an average of £15 daily travel and food cost it comes down to an extra ~£60 a week.
Divide this by the extra 8 hour commute. His time is worth more than £8.50 an hour.
People really don’t realise how much commuting costs. The commute would eat up the raise and I’ll be tired all the time. Not worth it for my sanity or health. Also, ignore the brokies in your mentions
Council tax banding is so outdated that majority of the country ends up subsidising the very richest and cash poor, asset rich pensioners. This is a good tax.
No not all of the South East will be losers - a lot of people will be paying less than what they are paying currently on council tax.
One big issues is that people can’t move. Families needing bigger homes but can’t afford to move due to lack of supply and SDLT.
Removing SDLT enables more people to move, including allowing the cash poor asset rich pensioners to downsize, freeing up larger houses for growing families.
A look at my area in Kent (relatively middle class), an owner of a 4 bed detached house will end up paying less.
