Delighted to share that I've been elected national Vice Chair of Young Labour, supporting the incredible @emilyrmoorex to deliver for young members in every nation and region 🩷
I sympathise with MPs who don’t want the instability of leadership speculation, but this is unacceptable.
The Labour Party exists to serve places like Makerfield. We must not risk the seat electing a Reform MP because we are too busy fighting each other.
After an incredible tenure, I’m stepping down as Chair of the Labour Growth Group.
I'm enormously proud of what we've built together. From a group of MPs determined to put economic growth at the centre of Labour's argument, to one of the most influential voices on the party's economic direction. We won tremendous victories on issues like expanding the envelope on planning reform, pushing major fiscal devolution, driving the call for a unleashing a new generation of nuclear power, unlocking greater investment in British defence and more.
The recent publication of An Honest Day was the crowning achievement, a serious blueprint for the new economic settlement Britain needs, grounded in the conviction that growth has mean something for working people, in every part of the country. That we must remake the state to ensure it can shape a future where an honest day pays again.
LGG is now moving into its next phase, with colleagues taking the work forward in fresh directions. I'm certain it will continue to play an important part in shaping Labour's economic argument in the years ahead. Growth matters even more now than when we set the group up, and the case for it has only got stronger.
Huge thanks to @MarkMcvitie, whose tireless work has been at the heart of LGG, and to every MP and member who has been part of this project. The work goes on.
- Chris Curtis MP
@LabourGrowth You've all done incredible work over the last couple of years and I'm certain many of the ideas will be crucial to the future direction of our party.
Many people in Gorton (including Burnham btw) were upset about the selection but campaigned anyways. I spent a whole day and a fair bit of money to do so. I didn’t have to do any of that - but I chose to because I want Labour candidates elected. That MPs can’t do so is insulting.
Net migration is down by 82% from its peak.
We are working on a new legal migration system that is firm but fair - that brings the brightest and the best to our country and that rewards contribution.
It’s hard work and contribution that makes our country great.

There’s no reason to hide it because local politicians are openly doing it for them.
We are turning the tide on the housing crisis - Last year we built more council, social and genuinely affordable homes than we’ve done in 25 years.

🚨EXCLUSIVE🚨
Sir Keir Starmer’s plan to fund Britain’s military is set to be unveiled next week, industry sources have told The Telegraph.
Several insiders have signalled the long-delayed defence investment plan (DIP) could be ready by June 11.
It would mean the plan can be revealed a week before John Healey, the Defence Secretary, is expected to attend a major summit of Nato defence ministers in Ramstein, Germany, on June 18.
“We’re hearing it from all angles,” one defence source said of the June 11 date, while another claimed some major military contractors have been told to begin moving equipment to support a potential announcement next Thursday.
“We’ve heard similar things before and they haven’t happened but this time it felt like it was a bit more co-ordinated and a bit less flaky... the movement around this suggests this date is very credible,” another source said.

Flyposting should be much more heavily enforced as a crime, Salford Central is currently covered in ugly posters for a SWP marxism festival and it's a right shame given how much effort the @BeeNetwork takes to keep their bus stops clean :/
“I look at this playing out in my home town and think: this isn’t the Oldham I know, which cares about each other and is resilient. Your divisiveness is tearing communities apart.”
Great piece from @shah_arooj - well worth a read! https://t.co/DtRey1BiUg
