I can only ever remember watching Sammer/Matthaus do it for Germany, but they were sweepers in a back three, which was stepping in with the ball more than it was receiving it like a conventional midfielder.

Imo, FIFA 23 is for the footballing purists,

The passing, the movement, thinking 3-4 passes ahead to unlock a defence or find space in the midfield. You're not able to just run round players flicking your left stick.
