Diego Simeone’s stint at Atletico will surely go down as one of the great single stints as manager of a club in modern football. Many similarities with Wenger at Arsenal.
Over 14 full seasons, Atlético finished outside the top four just once, recorded eight third-place finishes, twice finished runners-up, and won La Liga twice. Ushered the club into a new modern era and stadium.
Broke the Barça/Real monopoly during the Messi & Ronaldo era, produced some of the finest sides in Europe, 60% win rate in just short of 800 games, 5 major trophies. From a club mid-table when he took over to a European heavyweight.
Don't think people understand the gravity of what Gundogan's done for City honestly. Statue legacy. So many of the club's biggest and most historic moments paired with seasons of serious consistency.
Captain's brace in a 2-1 win against United in the FA Cup final is the stuff of legends. For so many Manchester City fans usurping and dominating Manchester United was/is the dream.
• Comeback on his back against Villa to win the league on the last day.
• Seasons on his back scoring through 2021.
• Showed up in the run-in this season — the braces against Leeds and Everton in two different positions.
• Starting 6 in the 15 game win streak to beat Liverpool to the league by a point 18/19.
6, double pivot, 8, scoring — defensively, build-up, scorer. Has it all. History book player. One of the best midfielders I've seen.
Ilkay Gundogan will be remembered as the match winner, but John Stones’s performance was sensational!
Defensively great, block on Garnacho & heading the crossbar!!
Then running the game from midfield.
I can only ever remember watching Sammer/Matthaus do it for Germany, but they were sweepers in a back three, which was stepping in with the ball more than it was receiving it like a conventional midfielder.

Imo, FIFA 23 is for the footballing purists,
The passing, the movement, thinking 3-4 passes ahead to unlock a defence or find space in the midfield. You're not able to just run round players flicking your left stick.
And for that reason alone, I love it.
