This game has been bonkers. @CodyMorissette with a HUGE grand slam, his 11th homer of the season, 10th with the Saints. It's his third grand slam of the season (1 with @JaxShrimp, 2 with us). Morissette becomes the 10th Saints player with double-digit home runs, tying the franchise record (2022 & 2023) & joins @GSOHoppers as the only team in baseball with 10 players with 10+ homers. St. Thomas Aquinas head football coach Scott Bray says the majority of coaches say the center position is the anchor of the offensive line. Bray believes that to be the case as well, especially in regard to Mitchell.
"Everything runs through him," Bray said. "Wade is a real intelligent young man. Last year he stepped into that center role and did a fabulous job for us all year long. We look for the same thing this year, and we actually look for him to take it a step further."
Bray believes a year of varsity experience under Mitchell's belt will only be beneficial this season.
"Now he understands many of the line calls," Bray said. "We've seen even through the summer at our lineman workouts how he has stepped up. We look for him to be the anchor of that offensive line."
It was midway through the season, in Bray's eyes, that Mitchell started to feel comfortable and confident.
"You could see him start coming into his own throughout the season," Bray said. "He began taking on more of a leadership role, and he asks great questions.
"He's a very bright, intelligent kid, and that makes it a lot easier to communicate with him on a deeper level," Bray continued. "I think everything he gained from last year is going to benefit him this year, and it's going to help those young offensive linemen around him grow as well.
