Hon’ble Minister of State, Tourism, Shri Suressh Gopi, was impressed by the intricate beauty of Gujarat’s “Appliqué Work”. The art form uses different patches of fabric in various colours and patterns that are placed together to create a multicoloured fabric, much like a jigsaw puzzle.

Preserved for generations by artisan families settled in the Vav-Tharad region of North Gujarat after migrating from Pakistan following the 1971 indo-pak war, this craft reflects remarkable dedication, resilience and creativity. Over the years, these artisans have received several awards and accolades for keeping the rich tradition of Appliqué Work alive.

During his visit to Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Shri Suressh Gopi appreciated the craftsmanship and cultural legacy reflected in every creation while attending the 2 day National Consultative Workshop & Review Meeting on “Developing Tourist Destinations to Global Standards.”
