Gbenga Collins, managing director of Divine Dopacy Nigeria Limited, says he gave Adeniyi Adeyemi N400 million to facilitate the award of a contract to renovate and furnish an apartment he claimed was his official residence.

To understand who a child gets their intelligence from, we have to go back to a moment that changed the way we look at biology and faith. It starts with an encounter between the Prophet (peace be upon him) and a Jewish scholar who came to test his knowledge.

When this scholar asked about why a child resembles one parent and not the other, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave an answer that was centuries ahead of its time. He said:

أَمَّا الْوَلَدُ: فَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ نَزَعَ إِلَيْهِ الْوَلَدُ، وَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ نَزَعَ إِلَيْهَا الْوَلَد
"As for the child: if the man’s fluid precedes the woman’s fluid, the child resembles him. And if the woman’s fluid precedes the man’s fluid, the child resembles her."

This concept of “sabaq” (preceding or outstripping) is the key. It describes a biological race where one parent’s essence claims the territory of the child's identity. This is not about who finishes first in a physical sense, but about which parent's traits dominate the final outcome.

For a long time, the world believed in a theory called "blending inheritance." People thought traits mixed like two colors of paint. They believed a child was a blurry average of their parents. It was Gregor Mendel who eventually proved this wrong with his experiments. He showed that traits do not merge. Instead, they remain distinct and compete for dominance.

When Mendel discovered dominant and recessive genes, he was confirming the divinity of the Prophet’s words. The "precedence" mentioned in the Hadith is the same thing as "dominance" in genetics.

One parent’s information takes the lead and is expressed, while the other might stay hidden. This shows that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was describing the hierarchy of our biological traits long before we had a name for them. It is a powerful proof that his knowledge was coming from the source of life itself.

Ibn al-Qayyim took this even further in his book Tuhfat al-Mawdud. He realized that this "resemblance" was a total package. It was not limited to the shape of a nose or the color of skin. He understood that whichever parent’s essence prevails, it sets the foundation for the child’s internal nature. This includes their temperament, their character, and their sharpness of mind.

He also explained that the child pulls from the dominant side. This is why our tradition places so much weight on the lineage of the mother. There is a deep belief that while the father provides the social identity and the drive, the mother provides the cognitive soil.

There is a Hadith where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

تَخَيَّرُوا لِنُطَفِكُمْ، فَإِنَّ الْعِرْقَ دَسَّاسٌ
"Choose carefully for your seed, for the vein is a silent traveler"

This Hadith is a direct call for us to look at the intellect in the family line. Those "crawling veins" of intelligence can stay hidden for a generation and then prevail when the time is right.

The ultimate truth is that we are a collection of these hidden roots. Intelligence is a gift from Allah, but the parents are the channels.

A child is the result of a biological and spiritual struggle where one lineage's traits win the day. The mother is the first school because her mental depth is the primary environment that activates these traits.

Our brilliance is often a debt we owe to the women who carried these silent strengths until they found a place to bloom in us.

Two incidents in the last three days have involved two respected religious leaders, Sheikh Isa Ali Pantami and Cardinal John Onaiyekan.

Religion is deeply personal, and understandably so. It touches people's convictions, values, and identities, which is why emotions often run high whenever religious leaders become subjects of public conversations.

However, we must also understand one reality. The moment any religious leader steps into the trenches of politics, whether by endorsing politicians, participating in political campaigns, making political pronouncements, or openly criticizing governments, they inevitably become part of the political arena. And politics, by its very nature, creates supporters and opponents.

This is not to discourage religious leaders from speaking. In fact, I believe they should speak out more often. However, once they choose to engage in political matters, they should also expect criticism and backlash. That is simply the nature of politics. Politics will not stop being politics, regardless of who steps into the arena.

You cannot expect everyone to applaud your political position. Those whose interests or beliefs conflict with yours will naturally push back. That does not automatically amount to an attack on your religion; in many cases, it is simply disagreement with your political involvement.

This is why we must be careful not to interpret every criticism of a politically active religious leader as an assault on the faith they represent. The office deserves respect, but political opinions remain open to scrutiny and debate.

On Cardinal Onaiyekan, my position largely aligns with his remarks on President Tinubu, I don’t even know what his supporters are trying to defend, Tinubu clearly wants win by all means, even the man clearly killed all the opposition parties. Hijacked judiciary, and the National Assembly.

The point of this write up is that we should try and be separating faith from politics as much as possible.

Respect religious leaders for their spiritual roles, but once they voluntarily enter political discourse, they should expect the same level of criticism, disagreement, and public scrutiny that every other political actor receives.

While the United States still has no universal health system, Iran built one that reaches almost its entire population, from the big cities to the smallest villages. Childhood vaccination rates sit near one hundred percent. Life expectancy matches countries far richer. They produce ninety-seven percent of their own medicines. They made their own COVID vaccines when the world tried to lock them out. Their engineers reverse-engineered German gas turbines and now ship them to Russia. They build more cars than Britain. They launch their own satellites. They rank among the top nations in nanotechnology and biotechnology. They created a national internet network so they would never be fully dependent on outside cables.
They have the knowledge, roughly eighty percent of what is needed, to build a nuclear bomb. Yet they choose not to. One reason is principle. They see it as a line that should not be crossed. Another is wisdom. If Iran crossed that line, every Gulf capital would demand the same. A country with near-universal literacy and hundreds of thousands of engineers could do it. They simply refuse.
This is not propaganda. This is what happens when a people decide to survive on their own terms. They took in millions of Afghan refugees when times were hard. They cut oil to apartheid South Africa and stood with Mandela. They sent weapons and trainers to the Bosnians when the world looked away.
The West has spent decades painting Iran as nothing but a threat. That story is incomplete. Iran is also a country that turned isolation into innovation, sanctions into self-reliance, and pressure into scientific progress.
If this planet is going to survive, we need more of that spirit. Not more wars. Not more endless suspicion. We need nations that compete in knowledge, in health, in human dignity, and in the quiet strength of standing on their own feet.
Iran is not perfect. No country is. But it has shown that a large nation under maximum pressure can still educate its people, heal its people, and build its own future. That is a lesson worth studying, not a story worth burying.
