Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a @NobelPrize peace nominee, named among @BBC100women Most Influential Women of 2024 and @TIME Next 100 Leaders of 2024, has been arbitrarily detained in Quetta, Balochistan alongside hundreds of peaceful activists.

If you had to nominate someone for the #NobelPeacePrize, who truly deserves it? Donald Trump, whose foreign policy is associated with military conflict, or a frontline human rights advocate like Dr Mahrang Baloch?

Yet today, national and international media outlets praise Pakistan for its role in promoting dialogue and reducing tensions between the United States and Iran. And the very state that claims to promote dialogue abroad remains unwilling to have dialogue with peaceful protesters demanding answers about the fate of their missing loved ones.
My mother, who is living the life of a half widow for the last 17 years, watched these reports on television. “My heart aches for Iran. I want its people’s suffering to end,” she said with a sigh. “But if Pakistan is allowed to become the face of peace there, I fear it will keep crushing us here, then smile before the world and say: how can we be oppressors when we are peacemakers?”
PTM central committee member & friend Zubair Agha Shah was arrested & then disappeared after attending a BYC press conference protesting the life sentence of Dr. Mahrang & Sibghatullah Shah Jee. They are systematically silencing all voices of conscience. #releaseZubairAghaShah

For seventeen years, Sammi Deen Baloch has carried the unbearable pain of searching for her father, Dr. Deen Mohammad, who remains subjected to enforced disappearance. Throughout these years, instead of receiving truth, justice or accountability she has endured relentless intimidation, surveillance, harassment and repeated threats aimed at silencing her peaceful struggle. The recent raid on Sammi Deen Baloch’s home marks a dangerous escalation in this pattern of intimidation. During the raid, the house was ransacked, household property was damaged and valuable personal belongings were taken away. This incident comes after weeks of continuous threats against Sammi and her family raising serious concerns that those seeking justice for enforced disappearances are being deliberately targeted through fear and collective punishment.
Today, the families of detained leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee together with supporters staged a peaceful protest at Burma Hotel in Quetta against the life imprisonment sentences handed down to Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Baloch. The protesters also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained BYC leaders and insisting that justice cannot be achieved through arbitrary detention and politically motivated prosecutions. Instead of respecting the constitutional right to peaceful assembly police launched a crackdown on the demonstration using force against peaceful protesters and arresting several participants. Despite the arrests and intimidation, the families and supporters refused to abandon their demands and transformed their protest into an ongoing sit in at Basheer Chowk, where they continue to call for justice, accountability and the immediate release of those detained.
No amount of intimidation, violence or repression can erase the demand for truth and justice. The authorities must immediately end all forms of harassment against Sammi Deen Baloch and her family, ensure their safety, release all protesters arrested during today’s peaceful demonstration, respect the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression and uphold the principles of due process, justice and the rule of law.
The father of @SammiBaluch was disappeared 17 years ago. On this 17th anniversary she wrote that “ Pakistan has earned the image of a global peacemaker, I wish the ruling elites of this country would also bring some peace to our lives as well”.👇 https://t.co/YAuwvRAeHL
HRCP expresses grave concern over reports that the home of rights activist @SammiBaluch in Karachi was raided in her absence. Such an action, if confirmed, raises serious concerns regarding due process, privacy, and constitutional protections. We call on the Sindh government to order an immediate, independent inquiry into the incident and ensure protection and security for Ms Baloch and her family.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari: I demand your immediate explanation. Just now, law enforcement personnel and intelligence officials raided my family home without my knowledge or presence. If this has been carried out under your government, you owe the public an explanation. If it has not, then you have a responsibility to explain who is operating with such impunity in Sindh.
This follows repeated visits to our home over the past week, amounting to a sustained pattern of intimidation and harassment directed at me and my family.
My family home has been empty for the past two days. During that time, police and intelligence personnel have repeatedly come to the property, arriving in approximately fifteen vehicles and harassing my neighbours.
I am placing on public record my grave concern over this unlawful intrusion. Any unauthorized entry into my home raises serious fears about my family’s safety, the integrity of our property, and the possibility that evidence could be planted, surveillance devices installed, or my residence otherwise compromised in an attempt to fabricate allegations against me or malign my name. Given the continued harassment of human rights defenders, these are not abstract fears.
I demand immediate answers. Which agency entered my family’s home? Under whose authority was this operation carried out? Was there any warrant authorizing this raid? If so, it must be produced without delay. If there are any allegations against me, the law provides clear legal procedures. Secretive raids, repeated visits, and unlawful intrusions into my family’s residence are not among them.
My family’s home is not a crime scene. It is not a place where state institutions can enter at will, intimidate our neighbours, or conduct unexplained operations without accountability.
I am also placing this on record: if anything is removed from my family’s home, if anything is later claimed to have been recovered from it, or if any case is built against me on the basis of evidence allegedly found there following today’s illegal intrusion, I will hold the authorities fully responsible. I likewise hold them responsible for my family’s safety, for any damage to our property, and for anything that may subsequently happen to our home as a consequence of today’s unlawful entry.
#Pakistan: We condemn the life sentence handed to Dr Mahrang Baloch yesterday.
Dr Mahrang is being targeted for defending the rights of the Baloch people. We call for her immediate release:

PAKISTAN: Reacting to the life sentences given by Quetta’s Anti-Terrorism court to Baloch activists Mahrang Baloch and Sibghat Ullah Shah Jee on 22 June, Amnesty International said:
“This verdict, which is an affront to the right to a fair trial, demonstrates how Pakistan’s anti-terrorism laws are being cynically misused to silence peaceful dissent. The conviction and sentence followed an expedited secret trial conducted on jail premises, during which serious concerns were raised over international fair trial standards and due process. No direct evidence was presented linking Mahrang and Shah Jee to the alleged violence.”

The enforced disappearance of Mehrab Khalid, a Filmmaking student at the NCA Lahore, represents yet another chapter in the systematic targeting of Baloch students and politically conscious youth. On 29 May 2026, Mehrab Khalid was forcibly disappeared from Lahore by security forces and taken to an undisclosed location. While others detained alongside him were released, Mehrab remains missing, with authorities refusing to disclose his whereabouts or legal status.
His disappearance comes amid growing attempts to portray educated, politically aware and critically minded individuals as security threats. This dangerous narrative has increasingly been used to justify the surveillance, harassment, detention and disappearance of students and intellectuals whose only crime is their political consciousness and commitment to speaking about the realities faced by their people. The targeting of Baloch students is not merely an attack on individuals, it is an attack on knowledge, critical thought, academic freedom and the collective political future of an entire nation. Enforced disappearance functions as a mechanism of intimidation designed to silence dissent, suppress political expression and instill fear among those who dare to question injustice. When students are disappeared for their ideas, education itself becomes a battleground and intellectual inquiry is treated as a threat to state power.
The continued disappearance of Mehrab Khalid raises grave concerns about the expanding culture of impunity in cases of enforced disappearances and the increasing securitization of academic and political spaces. We demand the immediate disclosure of Mehrab Khalid’s whereabouts & his unconditional release.

Nazar Marri, a 30 year old human rights defender and member of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, was forcibly disappeared on 27 August 2025 at around 7:30 PM from Bilal Cafe, Golimar Chowk in Quetta. His enforced disappearance reflects a continued pattern of targeting activists who work peacefully to raise awareness and defend basic rights in Balochistan.
His family remains without answers. There is no official acknowledgment of his detention, no access to legal process, and no information on his condition. This silence violates fundamental human rights and due process. Where is Nazar Marri? Authorities must immediately disclose his whereabouts and ensure his safe release.
#EndEnforcedDisappearances
The case of Ghani Baloch highlights a clear and documented pattern in Balochistan, where writers, intellectuals, and individuals who promote awareness are subjected to enforced disappearance. Those who engage in peaceful expression face unlawful detention without charge or due process. At the same time, individuals linked to criminal networks and corruption continue to operate with impunity and, in some cases, are integrated into positions of authority.
Ghani Baloch’s disappearance demands immediate clarification. His family and the public have the right to know his whereabouts, legal status, and condition. Silence from authorities only deepens concern and violates fundamental human rights obligations. Where is Ghani Baloch? The state must disclose the truth, ensure his safe release, and be held accountable under the law.
