#DBENews| Update on the Milnerton High School Bullying Incident

The Department has been in close contact with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) following a deeply concerning alleged assault at Milnerton High School.

We can confirm the following:
•The school immediately launched an internal investigation, identified those involved, and the School Governing Body approved the precautionary suspension of eight learners pending disciplinary hearings.
•Counselling and psychosocial support are being provided to those affected.
•The school is following all required protocols with the seriousness this matter warrants.

The Department of Education urges the public not to share the video footage, as doing so deepens the victim’s trauma and violates the dignity and rights of all learners.

Let us not allow this incident to disrupt schooling or the ongoing Matric NSC exams, we must protect our learners, uphold due process, and support the school community’s recovery.
