An AI data center wants to build right on the shore of the Great Salt Lake. 💦

Not near it. On its wetlands.

It just asked the state for permission to dump 252,000 gallons a day of leftover industrial wastewater into the marshes that feed it.

This isn't treated sewage. It's brine, the concentrated salt and mineral leftover from stripping fresh water out for industrial use, including arsenic. It would be discharged with nothing to dilute it first.

The discharge route runs through North Willow Creek and empties into Gilbert Bay, the main body of Great Salt Lake.

Along the way, it cuts straight through the Stansbury Mudflats, a mapped shorebird habitat where researchers count Wilson's phalarope, a bird already being considered for endangered species protection because this exact kind of wetland is vanishing. Up to 80,000 of them gather here before migration.

Here's who's actually behind it.

The company pushing this through, Zenith Bolinder LLC, is partly owned by the father and uncle of Utah State Representative Bridger Bolinder.

The other owner has already been convicted of tax fraud once. He served a year in prison for failing to pay $620,000 in federal excise taxes.

That same company couldn't get a traditional bank loan. Banks said no.

So the state's own port authority stepped in instead. $54 million in tax financing diverted from local schools for the next 25 years. $80 million in bonds. $100 million more on top of that.

$234 million in public money, funneled into private hands.

Who told Rep. Bridger Bolinder's family they get $234 million in public money and a dying lake's water, too? 💦

In March of last year Donald Trump sued Capital One for closing over 300 of the Trump Organization’s bank accounts in 2021. Trump and his sons claimed it was political.

Capital One Financial hit back on Friday this week. In court filings they stated that they closed the accounts after a review by anti-money laundering experts.

In their filing Capital One stated “documents and Plaintiffs’ own allegations make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs’ accounts for anti-money laundering (“AML”) reasons. The closures were the result of months of analysis and a careful review by Capital One’s AML team in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidance.”

This should be a surprise to no one. Donald Trump has been laundering money for years for Russian and Chinese entities and his hotel in Panama is known as Narco-a-lago after a Global Witness investigation revealed that Trump had made millions laundering money for Colombian drug cartels through the property.

Remember when we warned that SAVE Act would create unnecessary barriers for eligible voters?

The response was always the same:

“Just get the paperwork.”

Well, Florida is showing us what “just get the paperwork” actually looks like.

A Florida woman and Army veteran found that out when she ran into problems getting a REAL ID because she couldn’t produce a marriage record from 50 years ago to connect her name history.

Think about that. A citizen and Army veteran stuck because one old document was missing. Now expand that across the country. Millions upon millions of Americans have identity histories that don’t fit into one perfect government record. Marriage, adoption, divorce, immigration, court-ordered name changes, and simple clerical errors all create gaps.

The SAVE Act would add more opportunities for those gaps to become barriers. As is being proven in Florida.
