@StephenUzzell2 That’s a photo of my dad aged 6 on board! He’s the one with his tongue out. He’s 92 now and still giving talks about his experiences in Nazi Germany and aboard the St Louis. Thanks for ensuring this stain on history isn’t forgotten
@GMB My father is also a Holocaust survivor and at 92, he feels the same urgency as John to tell his story to as many children and teens in schools as possible. He hopes that future generations will not make the same mistakes… What remarkable men!
@Moorfields I had the misfortune to have to visit your A&E department yesterday but the care, treatment and kindness I received was exceptional. I’m so grateful! Thank you and all your wonderful staff
OTD in 1939 the St. Louis, left Hamburg port with 900+ passengers, mainly Jewish refugees inc. Gerald Granston (pictured R of pair) & Gisela Feldman (R) destination Cuba.
The captain & passengers did not know the Cuban government had invalidated landing permits.

@UCL_Holocaust My father, Gerald Granston, was just 6 when that photo was taken on board the St Louis. He is now 91 and this photo shows him talking to a rapt audience of school children about his experience on Holocaust Memorial Day earlier this year
Beyond proud of my nearly 91 year old father who still regularly speaks to school children about his early life as a Jewish child in Nazi Germany and encourages them to fight against prejudice wherever they see it. #HMD2024
@Baddiel My grandfather was also interned there having escaped Nazi Germany with my then 6 year old father. My father still talks about the sense of abandonment he felt having lost his mother in Germany and his father to the IoM camp. Hope your grandmother’s words touched someone’s heart
@VirginAtlantic@Delta Flying VS from LHR to SRQ with a connection in ATL. The connection time is too short for UK citizen to clear immigration and I want to change Delta flight to a later one. Apparently this is impossible even tho I’m willing to pay a change fee etc. HELP!
@Freedland Wonderful article about a remarkable man. I forwarded to my 90 year old father who is another Holocaust survivor. He always describes himself as “lucky”…
Thanks to the legend @David_Viner at @RichardWardHair for the most gorgeous blonde highlights and to the Prince of Cuts @BasciuCristiano for the immaculate blow dry. If only I’d taken an umbrella or jacket to my appointment. The blow dry didn’t survive the wet journey home. RIP
In 1939 a ship of Jewish refugees fleeing Germany couldn’t find safe harbour. My now 90 year old father was on that ship and is still grateful to the uk for asylum. As @susannareid100 asked @SuellaBraverman where is that compassion now? @GMB https://t.co/hW5J3GbH5p
