Happy Half Term.
Just a reminder that on the Monday after half term SLT will carry out learning walks, book scrutiny and planning scanning.
Enjoy your break.
Please note the following abbreviations can now be used on notes of meetings with parents
PAW - Parent Always Wrong (use only for repeat offenders)
WITCH - Who Is This Child? Help
NIWTATA - No Idea What They Are Talking About (follow up with investigation)
@new_primary I provide staffroom treats a few times during the year. At some point in the year everyone gets a handwritten card thanking them - usually for a specific incident when I have noticed them going above & beyond.
I find that more manageable than doing all staff at the end of term.

This week you:
Kept them safe
Made them laugh
Helped them learn
Made them better
Modelled kindness
Supported their needs
Showed them something new
Helped a colleague
Made someone smile
Were good enough
Did more than you realise
This week you made a difference.
@ShoaibMKhan@GavinWilliamson By avoided do you mean “I spent my days teaching online. I phoned families to check they were OK. I took my turn in school looking after key workers’ children and vulnerable children. I delivered work to pupils’ homes. I continued to do this through one of my holidays”
@EmmaDee77 Staff showing their true colours. The good, the bad and the ugly.
The sunshine. The quietness of the roads as I drove to work. Obsessive news watching.
Everyone wanting answers and reassurances that I didn’t have.
@RachelOrr You won’t remember this but about 25 years ago you very generously sent me a huge folder of resources through the post. Think it was via a post on TES. As an overwhelmed young teacher I was so touched by your generosity and kindness I’ve tried to do the same for others when I can
@RachelOrr I can vividly remember them arriving in the post and I sat on the floor leafing through them trying not to cry because you had saved me hours of work.
@Headteacherchat Shared calendars. Lists - my own and shared ones for SMT Microsoft To Do is fab for this. Include deadlines and dates so you get reminders.
Whenever possible deal with stuff as it arrives - answer the emails as you read them so you don’t have to go back to them.
Thought of the day: if mum is going to lie to me about you being ill then dad needs to lock down his Instagram account. By the way, the weather in Greece looks lovely.
@Katy_primary97 Schools just can’t afford it. Those extra minutes add up in terms of wages. We have equivalent of 2.5 Support staff between five classes and all the hours have to be when pupils are in as I can’t justify not utilising them for direct pupil support.
@new_primary@ProudHeadTeach1 Been thinking about this. Also as an NQT everyone expects you to need support and offers it.
In the early days of headship I felt very much left to just get on and I was expected to k ow stuff (& I didn’t)
@new_primary@ProudHeadTeach1 That sums up my experience. I had to keep reminding myself I’d had teeny years in the classroom to hone those skills.
I found the first months of HT role v lonely. Built a small but strong network now and it’s so helpful.
