@DrSteveTaylor@NHSEngland@wesstreeting I think it's all about the fact that the NHS is unaffordable. Productivity has only risen in general practice and has fallen in secondary care. We ( GPs..like me ) are masters of our doom..sucking it up year on year. Given our pliability..no wonder..we need to push back
@NHSEngland .. apologies..but couldn't find any posts from you on the new imposed contract for general practice ...are you able to direct me to it? Thanks
@DHSCgovuk@wesstreeting .. either way you have to have capacity. We don't. I've been doing this for 30 years...and in the twilight of my career I'm taking more risks than ever before. Think about that. Early retirement of highly experienced professionals is a consequence.
@DHSCgovuk@wesstreeting I agree Wes..we are here to serve the public ( ref: your R4 interview this morning) Digital access is good for many..of course only for those that can access/manage it...but it's like a stream of demand...you can divide it into various routes..walk in, phone in, do it digitally..
@wesstreeting@Keir_Starmer@10DowningStreet@DHSCgovuk I disagree. Every government for the entire time I have been a GP ( >25 years) have failed to be honest about the rising costs of the NHS. Until you are and you engage the public in this and how to turn it around...you won't start the journey to a more sustainable NHS.
@wesstreeting@BBCNews honestly if this is an example of reform, the costs of care are just going to keep climbing. Did you pass it by any qualified doctors...a GP even?
@wesstreeting Good to see a government also acknowledge that the rising costs of healthcare are the underlying problem. Reducing the rate of climb will be key.

@DrSteveTaylor@DrAmirKhanGP The NHS is funded through taxation. How that money is deployed...ie thro contracts with GPs, Hospitals, Specsavers , the Nuffield or a.n.other provider, is not as pressing an issue as the sustainability of healthcare costs..which we never discuss as a nation.
@AbbieSBrooks We created a Red Lines document that was agreed across Devon to stop all this. Devon LMC also rather amusingly have a WTF ( no ...it stands for Workload Transfer Form!) for GPs to use
@DrPeterWeeks1@DHSCgovuk@NHSEngland Of note I spent years trying to get primary care &secondary care to work better together. Right now, whilst I want that, keeping the doors open on my practice is far more important for the patients I serve. Next up we should all move to BMA safe working practice for their safety.
@DrPeterWeeks1@DHSCgovuk@NHSEngland We applied this locally..not more really than whats in the core hospital contract but it caused an immedioate system response and "GP summit" etc Red lines - word.docx
