Happy #MicroscopyMonday!📸Here we have one of Charlie’s first immunos from the start of his PhD! This image captures the apical turn of the organ of Corti. Nucleis are labelled with DAPI(blue) and hair cells with myosin-7a(green), a vital protein for both hearing and vision!👀👂
Did you know that we fund research to understand more about tinnitus so we can develop and find ways to treat it?
Next week is #TinnitusWeek. Find out more about the research that we're doing: https://t.co/Ca4gspjLsh
Today's paper spotlight comes from Ana I. López-Porras and was published in December last year. This beautiful paper adds some understanding to the role Myo15 and the hair cell transducer current plays in remodelling stereocilia! Definitely worth a read!🔎https://t.co/TxaUJ3va68
Happy #MicroscopyMonday ! Here we have an amazing image from Charlie showcasing the organ of Corti! Two different types of DNA damage are highlighted in green (arrow) and magenta (filled arrow), and blue marking cell nuclei. Such a fascinating glimpse into cellular dynamics! 🔬🧬
Happy #MicroscopyMonday everyone!📷 This image shows the inner hair cell stereocilia (green) with EPS8 (red) highlighting their tips. EPS8 is key in regulating stereocilia length and ensuring proper localization of other essential proteins.🧬🌟
Howdy all, to diversify our socials a tad we have a shiny new Blue sky account! We will of course keep posting on here in parallel moving forward, but if you were eyeing up a move to BlueSky you'll have company 💜 Find us with the same username or click: https://t.co/tHmbicresw
That's a wrap for the Paris adventure! We all had a fantastic time at the Pasteur institute and hoping it'll be the start of something great between the two groups. Now back to the UK, I think my electrophysiology rig misses me 💜
The lab's PIs are currently in Paris at the L'Institut Pasteur! Full day of science ahead and establishing collaboration is the name of the game; always good to keep groups talking!
Not quite breaking news, but it's good to see Apple introduce Hearing Health to the AirPods Pro 2. AirPods can (1) be used to have an audiogram, (2) act as a hearing aid, and (3) provide hearing protection. More accessibility to hearing healthcare is always welcome 👂.
You don't need to have the AirPods Pro 2 to do your own hearing test, though. There are several free online tests available, including one from RNID, who are one of our funders.

Unfortunately, the hearing aid and hearing protection features are not currently available in every region (including the UK). However, the audiogram feature on its own is still a valuable tool.

Happy #MicroscopyMonday, everyone! 🎉 This week, Char shares a stunning confocal image of beta III tubulin labeling in spiral ganglion neurons from a P9 cochlea dissection. Look at those beautifully detailed somas and projections!
We've been working on a very exciting project: developing a novel approach combining surgery and #twophoton imaging📷to investigate #calcium signalling generated spontaneously in the cochlear sensory epithelium📷in live neonatal mice 📷: https://t.co/m6sox0jbaV @NatureComms
Happy new year all! Today's paper spotlight is one of ours and was published in PNAS just last week, in this manuscript we show that mature cochlear hair cells use Myo7a INDEPENDENT mechanisms to maintain their resting transducer current! Full publication: https://t.co/zWRCBHl6jg
🎅Well it wouldn't be a holiday season if I didn't take my awful photoshop skills for a spin (5 people added, wildly varying effort). This is us signing off for the year, and what a year it's been! See y'all in a few weeks, here and at the new @hearingshef.bsky.social account! 🎄
Santa’s sleigh flies at 3810x the speed of sound to spread joy to kids around the world. The supersonic shockwave could cause a lot more serious damage than merely “dashing through the snow” if his magic wasn’t here to protect us. #FunFactFriday
