Everyone has genetic variants. Some impact our health & others don't. After a variant is identified, the genetic lab determines how a variant impacts the function of the gene & if it impacts health. Learn more about variant classification #genechat https://t.co/05TbIbyg7A
Recent updates to #NCCN guidelines indicate #genetictesting should be considered for any individual diagnosed with #colorectalcancer. Access to testing increases the chances of detecting cancer sooner, which can lead to better outcomes. #GeneChat

14 years ago, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) was signed into law. NSGC believes that no one should be discriminated against because of family health history or information obtained from genetic tests. Learn more here: https://t.co/I7ftVIcVmn #GeneChat
I am wondering what newer grads are learning about GINA. #GCChat Are you learning that the military and federal employees are in fact covered by the health benefits? NHGRI updated their website to be more clear in 2020, did the field realize this udpate? https://t.co/FJxLFBy608
Congratulations to @SUUtbirds Class of 2022! 🎉
We hope you've enjoyed Cedar City while you pursued your education and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors! 👩🏼🎓 #GoTBirds

It's #LynchSyndromeAwarenessDay!
So what is Lynch Syndrome?
It's an inherited gene alteration that increases the risk of several types of cancer. Like BRCA gene alterations which are more commonly heard of, but on a different gene and affecting different cancers.

Reminder that parents are allowed to say no to genetic testing and there are many valid reasons. Counsel that testing is an option - no testing is a valid option as well. There may be exceptions but I do feel strongly about advocating for the family’s wishes. #GeneChat
