I didn’t want to leave, I loved my team. But pour yourself into an org and get nothin but false promises. Expected from nonprofits, I’m not naïve. Just not one who says the want to liberate us in this generation…

Joined @liberation_gen in Nov. 2021. Fresh off policy and organizing campaigns, eager to join an org that touted “Liberation in Generation.” It was shocking to find out our leadership didn’t actually trust anyone not from their generation. 1
We launched our unionization drive in March 2023. Instead of voluntarily recognizing us without exclusions, management has taken numerous steps to shrink the size of our already-small unit. Here’s how our unit started, and here’s how @liberation_gen sees it going. #1u#Unions
It was at that point, that I quickly looked for a job. Found one that was eerily identical to mine in responsibility, but the pay was well over 30k of what I made. Title too! I applied and well, there I went 7
In March, we announced our intent to unionize and requested voluntary recognition from @liberation_gen & @PolicyLink. 91 days later, and we still haven’t been voluntarily recognized.
But with your support, we’ve moved closer to winning union recognition. 🧵👇
@ChickenKatsuFTW@BerkeleyParents I work with an organization, Latinos Unidos de Berkeley. We actively meet with Latinx parents in the city and have a good pulse on some of the community needs/issues. I say “some” since we aren’t a monolith. BPU never reached out to us or our folks for insights - feels off to us
