@mlstantial Sometimes there are just so many people that apply, you may not be referred as the top candidate. You can call and ask why you weren't referred. I've done this in the past and learned that almost 200 people applied and only the top ~20 candidates were referred.

@rainnwilson Check out "Merchants of Doubt" by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway (book and documentary). Using well-documented evidence they outline how several industries have manufactured science denial for profit. It's chilling.

It's also thought that these spectacularly old fish don't reach spawning maturity until they are at least a century old. A great reason not to remove adults from the wild!
