A large show of solidarity for the Burmese pro-democracy movement in the heart of New York. There was also a peaceful gathering in Taiwan this weekend to offer support and strength to protestors in Myanmar who are entering their 8th week of military rule.

I've received credible reports of security forces sealing off four streets in Sanchaung, Yangon. 200 peaceful protesters are apparently trapped. They must be released immediately and the escalation of terror tactics against those exercising their right to protest must end now!

Inhumane scenes of violence in Yangon and Mandalay this weekend, as well as other remote areas. Several unverified videos reveal military officers badly beating young people with batons, sometimes kicking and dragging along the ground. I’m told one victim is a medical student.

Dr. Sasa says he was with Aung San Suu Kyi on the morning of February 1, when a military coup took over Myanmar’s government. He tells me he had to dress as a taxi driver to escape, and it took him three days and three nights to reach relative safety.

I’ve seen the pictures of the boy from Myingyan and like many of my colleagues I won’t be sharing them. It’s widely reported he was shot and killed while protesting. I’m told he was just 14. This is one of several deaths across the country today
