@sparrowhawk28@Self__Kindness I don't know about you, Ruth, but it left me with a deeply uncomfortable "I think I'm being rather cleverly manipulated here…" feeling deep inside me.
"Please look after this Cribbins…"
The peerless Bernard Cribbins: storyteller to a generation, Wilfred Mott to the next, and loved by millions of us.
Womble free, Bernard…

@deebells1907@roselisa191@passportwaiting You can get it fast-tracked on compassionate grounds with the FT costs later refunded if you have documents proving the legitimacy of the grounds:

@justwearmasks The biggest irony in this instance being this is a direct quote from Zac’s father, Sir James Goldsmith.
He famously fathered eight children among his wives and several mistresses.
@SkyNews And if they do move to a better job, what of their successor—what do they do?
As long as we allow greedy employers to manipulate employment law—unchecked—there’ll be someone stuck in an appalling job, in appalling conditions, on appalling pay.
The answer’s porridge, apparently.
@agw1437@cookieboy2304@IainSankey@sophielouisecc See also, CP in the Military – where as well as being identified as wholly ineffective, it's also officially considered an abuse of power.
The only person it makes feel (temporarily) better is the ill-advised and unskilled person deploying it as a would-be method of control.
@agw1437@cookieboy2304@IainSankey@sophielouisecc I sense you're not a teacher, or you'd already know it actively doesn't.
Decent teachers don't use CP; they know it demotivates & fuels resentment in good pupils. Punishing good behaviour is absurd logic.
Proof? Read any teacher's account of precisely why it's such poor practice.
@cookieboy2304@agw1437@IainSankey@sophielouisecc Collective punishment is not only practically & psychologically ineffective, it’s ethically wrong.
It’s also the act of one too lazy or unskilled to unearth & address the root of the problem—preferring instead to absolve themselves of responsibility by transferring it to others.
@cookieboy2304@agw1437@IainSankey@sophielouisecc Someone *that* controlling will always find a way to manipulate—whether it’s in-person voting or postal.
Also I’d be interested to see data on estimations of coerced voting.
Just because a minority of people abuse something, that’s no reason to deny everyone else - cf Benefits.
