So glad to be a @BirkbeckUoL student at this brilliant gathering at @BergenUib . Both universities have owls as their logos. That’s a good thing. Will be fantastic to meet other participants.

Apparently we were very lucky to see this pavement at Canterbury Cathedral, with the Cosmati mosaic and roundels showing the signs of the zodiac and labours of the months - we were told that it’s usually kept covered

If I get my teaching sorted this morning, and my emails done after lunch, I'll hopefully have just enough time to complete my 3 years of unfinished writing

A bit of a dream achieved. One day in the Lower Amazon and I have ringed a Hoatzin. These are one of the most primitive birds in the world that is considered as being a step away from the archaeopteryx.
Our late friend Dr Ryan Foster's wonderful chapter in The Viking Age in Scotland (@VikingScotland) is still free to download, thanks to @EdinburghUP, but it won't be so forever, so I'd advise getting the pdf now 📚 ⬇️
