UPDATE: Women activists have condemned recent raids on the homes of government critics, accusing security agencies of disregarding due process. @SarahBireete said her home had also been raided, describing the operations as evidence of poor intelligence gathering. She urged security agencies to issue police summons where there is suspicion of a crime instead of conducting raids. She made the remarks at a Uganda Women's Movement press conference held in solidarity with Dr Miria Matembe, whose home was raided earlier this week.

My heart goes out to the 15 migrants who drowned in the Mediterranean, and to the families they leave behind. May they rest in peace.

These deaths are a tragic reminder of the human cost of increasingly hostile migration policies. The world must recommit to international law, human rights and solidarity. Every migrant is a human being whose life has equal worth and dignity.
