@colleen__may I’m not saying that med school makes you omniscient or a research expert, but in the UK at least med students receive a ‘passing grade’ rather than 1st/2:1 etc because the ‘pass’ mark is around 80%.
I was stunned when I found out other courses consider ~40% a pass.
@Caxihara@mbateman Smaller, yes. But outside of the main cities public transport can be appalling. It doesn’t matter if the nearest job is 20 or 1000 miles away; if there’s no train or bus, and you don’t have a car, you’re not getting there.
@doctor_dru_ I’m an anaesthetist. I liked dealing with things in real time, and making sick people better, and doing procedures, and hated ward rounds and clinics, and I like variety but I also hyperfocus. It was this or ED and I saw the senior ED’s rota and went for it.
No regrets.
@ishsulin Anaesthetists, particularly out of hours, are often stuck with an anaesthetised patient in theatre or ED & can’t come to the ward. In that case it’s vital that the ward doctors can perform a tricky, urgent procedure and not immediately bounce the responsibility to someone else
@ishsulin Anaesthetists can indeed get swamped, but the only reason we’re better is because we’ve practiced. If you don’t do it ‘because it’s tricky’ then you underestimate both your own skill and the importance of perseverance (to a point) for both your patients and yourself.
@sarajcox Mine was both passive aggressively bereft and (after I finished uni and was therefore no longer coming home for long holidays regularly) immediately removed the bed and turned my room into an office
@sp_jimbob Sounds like they should have consented you better, sorry to hear. Midaz *can* cause anterograde amnesia, but the main intention is anxiolysis to tolerate the procedure. It’s not guaranteed even for anaesthesia led sedation (ie a lot stronger); even then there’s a chance of recall
@johalifax I hook it at the back then put my arms through the holes.
I am somewhat squidgy though, and find that I provide too much traction to spin it round without taking more effort than reaching back.
I did have to spend a week in pull on bralets when my shoulders played up though.
