Funny how things work out.

When I was younger, I couldn’t get seen for many jobs, because I was an ‘out gay man’. Not acceptable.

As I’ve grown older, & lived through reactions such as utter horror in the 80’s, people shaking my hand for being ‘brave’ or simply moving away, nodding, as I explain my ‘partner situation’, I always believed that it’s “ok, because soon, no one will care & I can drop the ‘gay’ bit”, because it’s the least interesting & most mundane thing about me.

How catastrophically stupid I feel now, as I have people determined to shut me up again, & make sure that work is as difficult to come by as possible, all because of an aggressive cult movement that fully bloomed around 10 years ago, & laid down rules & regs, that I thought to be hugely damaging to all the goodwill that came before us, forged by men & women now mocked & derided because they stand by their hard work, rights, morals & are prepared to defend them, ruthlessly.

How abysmally they are treated by their own supposed "community". How awfully ill-informed, selfish & narcissistic these people are.

And now, as a decidedly middle-aged actor, I find myself in an even worse position for voicing my concerns. Surrounded by those who agree, but won’t say anything, for fear of the same treatment & by those who choose to now look the other way, occasionally raising a wet finger, to check which way the wind is blowing. Maddening.

Everything is cyclical…that’s the upside. So what’s shit today, could be ok tomorrow. Who knows?

Like I said. Funny, isn’t it?
