Over the weekend and throughout the week, members have been showing their support for additional preparation time. See how you can help teachers across the state get the preparation time they need: https://t.co/PiJ1m4tCvb

The Education Minister has been urged to slam the brakes on a reckless departmental shake up of school attendance policy that would see 113 specialist Home School Liaison Officer positions replaced by clerks with no experience in getting kids to school. NSW Teachers Federation Deputy President Natasha Watt said the decision was short-sighted and ill-informed.

Last night Hawkesbury Teachers Association of the NSW @TeachersFed launched their local #MoreThanThanksItsTime campaign. In a recent Federation survey, 97% of teachers said they’re not provided enough preparation time to do the work required to meet the needs of today’s students
Belmont High welcomed President Henry Rajendra today, as members backed the preparation time campaign launched at State Council, informed by our latest survey of 18,000+ members.
What would you do with more preparation time?
Hunter teachers have called for more class preparation time as they say they are increasingly "under the pump". In a survey of more than 840 teachers from Newcastle, Wallsend, Charlestown and Port Stephens electorates, the NSW Teachers Federation found that many were stretched beyond capacity.
There’s no state of origin rivalry when it comes to workers rights and conditions. Teachers working conditions are students learning conditions, regardless of state or territory. Solidarity to our QLD colleagues on this day of action! #QTU#QueenslandTeachers#SchoolLeaders #StudentsDeserveBetter @TheQTU
People with disability deserve to sit at the table - not a place off to the side. That was the message teachers took home from Rethinking Ability, the Centre for Professional Learning's special education conference held at Federation House on 3 November.
Thank you to Daniel McDonald, visual artist and disability advocate, who gave a stirring keynote address, recounting how his experiences as a Deaf person have informed his championing of people with disability in public life.
Thank you to all those who attended and participated. We hope to see you at next year's Rethinking Ability: Special Education Conference on 3 December 2026 - the same day as International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Federation’s Small Schools Restricted Committee met earlier this week with President Henry Rajendra to discuss the ongoing campaign to improve the learning conditions of schools with a teaching principal. The meeting was an opportunity to celebrate that from 2026, teaching principal relief funding will be converted to a permanent staffing entitlement. This announcement, consistent with Federation policy, was made following campaigning efforts that involved hundreds of members emailing the Minns Government calling for an increase in the permanent principal release entitlement.
Last week was Deaf Awareness Week, Federation acknowledges and celebrates International Day of Sign Languages (on 23 September) and World Deaf Day (28 September).
Federation acknowledges International Day of Sign Languages, 23 September.
Learning sign language builds bridges, fosters understanding and allows for deeper connections within communities and across cultures.

“Australia has an obligation to act to prevent genocide. This is not optional. It is not a political issue but a legal one. Failure to act further undermines international law and the international legal system. It also fails the suffering people of Gaza.”👇🏾

“Australia's success as a diverse nation rests not only on migrants' resilience, but on strong, universal public institutions that anchor belonging beyond rhetoric. These are the practical foundations of inclusion.”
