@dieworkwear Thanks so much for the reassurance! I really appreciate your help. If you think they’re functionally the same, I’ll go with the croc - they’re very different than anything else I have. These were both Nordstrom Rack finds, by the way - occasionally great for $$$ shoes on $ budget
@fuzzymittens I’m in the exact same boat. 1 kitchen wall turned into taking my whole place down to the studs. Sorry to hear you’re going through it too
Check out my #SciCommPersonality from @BioRender! Like Alex the Antibody, I'm a simplifier. My superpower is breaking down complex scientific concepts into easy-to-understand language. Complete the quiz to find out which #SciCommPersonality you are: https://t.co/w2m9zi2CjX
@FrMatthewLC@allisonoconn Best of luck! Most medical schools have programs (“willed body program”, “body donor program”, “whole body donor”, etc.) to facilitate these very meaningful gifts.
@FrMatthewLC@allisonoconn I am hugely appreciative of the tremendous gift that the donor(s) I learned from made. Based on your profile, it looks like these may be good local options for you: https://t.co/fbk5cwgh6V; https://t.co/954ZayA3hC
One of the coolest threads I’ve ever read and a fantastic preprint - I love the story of kitchen science leading to fascinating mechanistic science!

It turns out that sparkling water and raisins are *fascinating*. My daughter and I happened upon this effect playing together in the kitchen a long time ago, and I couldn't help but explore the system more deeply... 1/n https://t.co/wNBX7nnGJS
@jmshghtwr@mayatmiller Paying out of pocket, but luckily there was a pretty good discount card from the manufacturer. I’ve sent receipts for the 6 times I filled the rx (I tried to stretch 30 day supplies to save money) with a claim form - hopefully they refund me, though I’m not holding my breath.
I won my 8-month war against BCBS!
January Rx denial led to appeals, requesting my file (h/t @mayatmiller) and eventually independent review, which overturned the exclusion.
I couldn’t think of a better way to thank those who put together the 90+ pages than framing the letter
#labtwitter, I’m starting my ELN from scratch on @benchling as a new grad student. I’m looking to maximize the benefit I derive from it. Do any Benchling tweetorials exist like the ones for Epic from power users like @amyfaithho and @CanesDavid, among others? #scitwitter
How to be hyper-efficient in #Epic#EHR — from a physician #informaticist who loves to flyyy on shift🧵
1️⃣ Smartphrases are the #1 documentation efficiency. Use a standard naming convention so you can find it quickly. I use:
.dc*** for discharge instructions (ie .dcviral, .dcchestpain)
.proc*** for procedures that aren’t smart blocks (.proccpr, .proctriggerpoint, etc.)
.hpi*** for standard history where I mark *** to cue the parts to fill out (.hpimvc, .hpitransfer, .hpistd)
.mdm*** for risk calculators that aren’t in Scoring Tools (.mdmPerc, .mdmCanada, .mdmHasbled, etc.)
2️⃣ Macros: same concept as smartphrases, but used for smart blocks (the click-buttons in Notewriter for Exam, ROS, Procedures, etc.)
3️⃣ Ctrl-space bar opens up a search function where you can search the entire chart. I.e. I’ll search “creatinine” to see if careeverywhere (OSH) has a creatinine documented outside my system to compare a baseline, or search “cancer” if a patient says they had cancer and I can’t figure out what type
4️⃣Epic has a whole free training series called “Power User” geared at clinicians of small 1-hour asynchronous topics of how to maximize efficiency. Pick and choose what’s relevant to your context/specialty. Check it out! https://t.co/NWYGiHfMeD
5️⃣Talk to your local Epic builders (called application analysts) or your Epic trainers/educators. There are a TON of customizations the system can do. Automated-drop-in’s (called CER rules, but basically like IF a patient has a systolic BP>140, THEN drop in a phrase mentioning you acknowledge and address it by ***), customizing your trackboard/patient lists, building data elements behind drop-downs (smartlists) so you can report on it, and overall helping you decrease clicks!
Epic is highly customizable, just need a clinical champion to work with analysts to understand where builds can help clinical workflow!
There are many more “hacks”, these are just some of my favorite!
(And, no conflicts with Epic, it’s just my favorite EHR out of Cerner, Meditech, Medhost, etc…)
Interested? Think about #informatics as a field OR talk to your local friendly physician informaticist (often CMIO at a hospital system!)

@AoiSenju@benchling@amyfaithho@CanesDavid@ColabraHQ I am in the enviable position of starting from scratch! It’s definitely the best time to get a solid foundation. I don’t know anything about Colabra, but I’m willing to learn! The price for academic Benchling is right ($0). If you send me a DM, I’d love to set up a time to chat.
I have read their introductory documentation, but I’m having trouble determining how to integrate everything together in practice. I can tell that it will really help me save time and improve my documentation, I just can’t figure out how to best make it happen.
@JayOrsi@karynbaum @annievanb @Cigna This inspired me to use ChatGPT to write a first draft of a letter appealing my own insurance denial - after 5 or 6 refinements to the prompt, it did a pretty good job (and was certainly a lot faster than I could’ve done). Coming to the desk of a B*BS reviewer soon…
