@KalebHester3@HailStateBB@DulinsDodgers Congrats Kaleb! I know I barely got to coach you but I'm glad you're a Bulldawg!! I'll be cheering you on in a few years!! Hail State and welcome to the Bulldawg family!
@pmarshwx I have a met degree, taught numerous physical sciences, and am now a public education admin. I've seen it first hand. Many students won't see any earth based science after 6th grade in my state. You changing your graphics and wording will almost assuredly never overcome that.
@pmarshwx I think the issue is larger. You are fighting the ever decreasing physical geography literacy of our students in K-12 and higher ed. Public education hasn't adapted to the need of our populous to understand basic safety, geography, and physical science. (1/2)
Very interesting topics to think about as we transition into the 2nd semester of the school year and a new decade where educational issues and reforms must be prioritized nationally.

@AMSTI_UM Creating a spinning coil motor with a couple batteries, some copper wire, and a magnet. Kids are going to love this experiment! #amstiscience
@DrBradJohnson I've thought it would be beneficial to give teacher leaders opportunities to be 9 1/2 month and conference with parents, admin, and counselors on class placement for the upcoming year. Or collaborate together on cross-curricular instructional strategies to pass down during PLCs.
Big change coming my way! I am happy to announce that I am the new 8th grade science teacher at Chelsea Middle School! Happy to be joining Shelby County Schools, which is the district I grew up in! Excited for some new growth and opportunities! Ready to get started! #feartheswarm
@amykfmurphy @ortotter That's the unfortunate issue is we are stuck with the current course of study for a while. Having a Geoscience degree has really made me passionate about this topic. Hopefully when this comes around again I'll be in a position to make an impact!
As a science teacher this is a big concern. ACT and many other standardized tests have large earth-based science components, yet many students in Alabama go from 7th grade through graduation without taking an earth-based science. Leaves a big content knowledge gap.
New science tests are rolling out across the country, but some teachers are worried that they will include a lot of questions on subjects their students haven't studied. https://t.co/3Ejh16PxYC
@ortotter @amykfmurphy Very true! However, in many schools, especially large ones, less than 50% of a graduating class will take an earth science after 6th grade. My concern is too few students are exposed to the content. @amykfmurphy is right in that there are many cases of low rigor in those classes.
@amykfmurphy This is so true! Most are taught with little rigor. Lots of DOK Level 1. AP Environmental is one step in the right direction (when done properly), but real-life applications like meteorology and geography that impact us every day are virtually non existent at the advanced level.
@JasonRedd76@spann Thank you! That's exactly why I did that! Kids need to know that a lot of Bibb County weather will eventually come through Shelby County!
@spann Educating teenagers and hopefully saving lives today. Going over state geography and ways to get accurate and reliable weather information. I teach high school Chemistry but this is too important not to cover. Kids need this information! #alwx#makeadifference
@myAEA@butchworley @EdPsychMama @Trish_Crain@afineburg@AlaSchoolBoards @AlabamaDeptofEd Is the sick leave conversion proposed counting towards service time only or will there potentially be a monetary value assigned to a sick day where an employee can trade them in for a monetary amount?
