So, I am just starting off my PhD. Received a pretty harsh (but very valid) feedback from one of my supervisors. Is it normal that I was a little teary/disheartened when read it? How do you normally go about this?

@HereToVentPhD @PhDVoice @PhD_Genie Definitely yes. It's a good place to centralize your info (research interests, publications, CV) while also showing your personality. I have been contacted several times with potential opportunities from people finding and looking through my website.

@HereToVentPhD @PhD_Genie @PhDVoice I'd say yes. You can control and cater the content better than Google Scholar or any other publication-centric site so you can also include other information like current projects, affiliations, and non-academic contributions. It can also help with networking.

Love the creativity but tbh I don’t think that’s a good way to seek potential supervisors. I know it is harsh but you have to prove first what you actually have to offer. Specific research interests; even crude proposals could work better. It is not a popularity contest!

@Anivgf1 It was explained to me this way: You only earn credit for your work once. Self-plagiarism is claiming credit on the same work more than once. So it's a different kind of academic dishonesty than plagiarizing others, but still dishonest.

ALWAYS send linked EndNote word files to ur supervisor so when she reviews it moving paragraphs up and down you don’t end up having to insert/relink 80 refs 😥
