Former institutional investor and avid reader of macro/economic history. NOT a believer that governments and central banks can print their way to prosperity ...
@Jkylebass@wolfejosh@nickbilton@bariweiss So long overdue, and folks like Pelly and his fans (elderly folks + blue haired hippie chicks in New England and Minnesota with their knitting kits and Toyota Priuses) will be squealing like stuck pigs as they lose their influence/megaphones they have so long felt entitled to
@FischerKing64 He has always appeared to be another hack who was lucky enough in his case to get $7mm/year, for asking interviewees some softball questions once every couple weeks that someone else may have even written for him, and he STILL exhibited extreme bias and spite, so fuck him
@Jason@ScottPelley@reidhoffman@moskov@60Minutes The fact that a hack like that was paid $7mm/year to do softball interviews with production assistants and writers doing much of the heavy lifting is criminal … can’t imagine journalism will keep that top end of its compensation range much longer
@profplum99 Def C … if Starbucks cut price 20%-30% and had robot servers (assuming zero difference in final product quality), most customers would take that in a heartbeat I suspect
@DavidBCollum This is all about liquidity in the system and an idea that essentially represents public VC … shares will prove vulnerable to any decline in liquidity as much as various segments of the business not fulfilling moonshot expectations
@LtColWeaver Would consider adding Berluti shoes to lineup, the shape and patina are distinct … not that Lobbs aren’t great, but the continentals in Europe do it very nicely
@dieworkwear ps. Other approach is to suggest brands that may be best/most stylish in their category when someone says, “I want to try loafers” or “I want a punk leather biker jacket” and “I want an elegant gold dress watch” — then offer mid-range to high-end choices. You do this a fair bit.
@dieworkwear All fair, maybe advice seekers should start with “this is how I like to dress and envision myself, and here are brands I’ve found appealing” then ask what fits and styles and brands might be additive … often the issue is getting the components to coordinate well too.
@colejaczko More power to him if he actually enjoys it, but everything about his body language and his profile suggests pretty clearly he’s not in his comfort zone (which one suspects is primarily administering his hedge funds, sadly)
@BubbleBuddyBish@dieworkwear That’s fair, but I know a few people from blue collar families that appreciate the finer things and refined styles, made it in life, and have exceptional wardrobes despite their not having been born into the upper class … I don’t see them as “faking it” necessarily
@ctazzo384@_The_Prophet__ Ultimately two white collar professionals getting (and staying) married CAN build wealth but it will take job continuity, shrewd savings, two incomes, opportunistic real estate purchases (possibly with parental help) … not as certain now but still do-able in their 30s and 40s
@dieworkwear So are you saying men shouldn’t even bother trying? There can be a happy medium, via an understanding of fit, texture, patina, “shape & drape” as you call it, and enduring/durable items that can reflect some appreciation of times past … pictures help in this understanding, no?
@Jason Don’t get an all-gold watch, just shouts to the world the way a Ferrari would … much more subtle flex is a 38mm or below steel or at least white gold Vacheron or vintage Patek. Try the new VC perpetual calendar in 36mm, $100K but def a quiet yet powerful look
@Bruce_Markets How is the UK going to come storming back? New drilling in the North Sea? Developing a new Silicon Valley culture and capital formation backdrop akin to Sand Hill Road in Manchester or Liverpool? Inviting more illegal immigrants to suck the public budget dry? Truly curious!
@_The_Prophet__ Best tweet of the week on the topic … tax code basically rewards taking massive risk and starting a business, and if it’s very successful, the gains compound better than they ever do for standard W-2 blue collar types. It’s too skewed.
@dieworkwear Tuck shirt in, stay in shape, no white soled dress shoes, very light touch of Creed or Aqua di Parma cologne. No gold chains, Charvet/Pink/New & Lingwood dress shirt, no or hidden body art, and you are pretty much set to stand out but not in an extreme way, just noticeable enough
