@ScottMcCreaWest Lester brings an odd, distinctive tone to all his films - even one western!
But he makes my cut for A Hard Day’s Night …..and The Three Musketeers/The Four Musketeers, which are my favorite films and superb in EVERY department (with Lester clearly holding it all together).
@CinemaTweets1 Was Orson Welles the only other one?
For Citizen Kane (1941), he was nominated as director, producer, best actor, and won for the screenplay.
@andrew_lilico@timecaptales No, John was supposed to be singing a harmony during these lines and Paul is looking at him because John didn’t come in.
John’s expression says, “Oh, well,” and Paul is amused.
@warmandspewing@MargBarCinema Hawks was the producer and everything (visual style, dialogue direction, themes) scream “Hawksian.”
It’s great film, too.
@obsessafilma Describing Valentino as "very, very white' is a curious choice of words on your part, since he wasn't just Italian but from SOUTHERN Italy.
His physical appearance didn't differ much from Tunisians or Algerians.
But you're right; he wasn't of Arab descent.
@SketchesbyBoze Alexandre Dumas had ONE black grandparent (out of four, of course).
More notably, he did not live his life as a black man. (I.e. He moved ONLY in white social circles).
Of his ~100 novels, only one, GEORGES, features a “black” principal character.
