Every car at the motor show had one of those info stands next to it. A QR code, a price, and nothing else.
Imagine if it could talk back. Answer the questions you'd ask if someone were free. Work out what your current car is worth. Book you in for a test drive on Saturday morning.
Then send a summary of the whole conversation to their salesperson before they've even approached you, so they walk over knowing what you care about, what you drove in, and what you're ready to do next?
Plenty of fun interactions at the Melbourne Motor Show last week, but this quick demo with the Isuzu UTE team was one of my favourites.
One of the things that irks me with voice demos on social media is how fake some of them are. Much of what you see is recorded under perfect lab conditions, whereas the real world is much messier… people talking in the background, car doors opening and shutting, music coming from overhead speakers, and congested internet connections.
What's been impressive about some of the recent advancements in voice is how good things are getting under these "real-world" conditions. Expect to see a lot more AI interactions in the real world over the next couple of years.
P.S. If you walked into a car dealership, would you prefer to speak with Norby first, or go straight to a salesperson?
Big shoutout to Ted Horner for another outstanding Ted's Technology Summit in Sydney today. 36 years in the industry, and he still puts on a great show.
The thinking in the room on AI and agents was seriously advanced. The hotel industry is ready.
Great speakers.
And yes, the robots are coming! 🤖
Car buyers shut down the moment a rep approaches too early.
"I'm just looking."
Conversation over.
We filmed a demo of Norby, our AI showroom assistant, sitting in a BMW.
It answers questions, captures context, switches between Chinese and German, and still understands when the model number is wrong.
Voice captures more in 30 seconds than any chatbot or screen ever could.
Running a webinar for anyone in automotive, retail, property or hospitality who wants to see this properly.

Norby’s been on quite the adventure lately 🚛 🤖

Huge thanks to the Dell team for all their hard work and for letting us be part of the journey!
Not every day your startup has to follow Jensen Huang… but here we are!
Huge thanks to @MichaelDell for featuring Norby in his keynote at #DellTechWorld as a glimpse into where AI is heading.

In the lab, with thoughtful care,
Norby's tested here and there.
Bots together, screens aglow,
Everywhere their voices flow.
One Norby speaks, another replies,
Learning quickly, blinking eyes.
Soon the world will smile and see,
How smart these little bots can be!
Great session with Norby at the @Dell Technologies Forum in Melbourne today.
Covered some interesting questions including innovative ways AI can assist in healthcare (i.e., speech therapy, eldercare, translation services in hospitals, etc).
@AmritBuilds @_buildspace@_nightsweekends Users will be able to choose between local vs hosted. Looking into hybrid architectures for certain use cases as well.
