Contrary to your account of events surrounding Mr. Peter Obi’s transit through the Abuja Airport on Saturday, July 4, it has become necessary to set the record straight.
Mr. Peter Obi does not have any police or civil defence personnel attached to him in Abuja, despite being entitled to VVIP protection by virtue of his status as a leading opposition figure in Nigeria. He certainly does not have a police officer serving as his driver. Your reference to a “police driver” appears to have been based on the assumption that he enjoys the level of security protection ordinarily accorded to someone of his standing. He does not.
Mr. Obi travels through multiple airports across Nigeria well over a dozen times every week. As someone who frequently travels with him, I have personally witnessed repeated instances of unusual discourtesy directed at him by some government personnel.
From your own account of events, it is evident that the incident Mr. Obi referred to during his interview occurred on a different date and at a different airport from the one referenced in your tweet.
However, let me address the incident you chose to publicise.
KEY CLARIFICATIONS
1. The incident you posted is entirely different from the one Mr. Peter Obi narrated in his interview. In that interview, he clearly stated: “I was there…” In the incident contained in your tweet, he was not present.
If we now have at least two separate incidents in which vehicles associated with Mr. Obi were clamped under questionable circumstances, does this not suggest a pattern of targeting an individual simply because of who he is?
2. The entire sequence of events you referenced, from arrival to the eventual clamping of the vehicle, lasted approximately five minutes.
At most airports around the world, including major international airports, a ten-minute drop-off window is generally considered acceptable. Where, then, did the claim of 30 minutes originate?
Do you not agree that half-truths can sometimes be more misleading than outright falsehoods?
3. Is it not a fact that several other vehicles were in the vicinity of Mr. Obi’s vehicle without attracting similar attention from airport officials? Indeed, some of those vehicles had been parked there long before Mr. Obi’s vehicle arrived, yet none was clamped.
4. I have personally been at the airport on several occasions when serving and former government officials arrived in large convoys, blocked access routes, and caused considerable inconvenience to the travelling public, without any agency of government taking similar action.
5. Under your watch, there have been other high-profile airport incidents, including:
The disruption involving Senator Adams Oshiomhole and airline staff.
The incident involving Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), a known associate of the President, who allegedly attempted to prevent an aircraft from departing.
You are undoubtedly aware of both incidents.
Where was this same enthusiasm to instigate public outrage and issue official condemnations? Was CCTV footage from those incidents also released, or was the CCTV system only activated when it involved Mr. Peter Obi?
6. Can the publication of CCTV footage detailing Mr. Peter Obi’s movements on your personal social media platform be considered a serious breach of his personal security?
Your footage established no wrongdoing. Instead, you further exposed the movements of a leading opposition figure whose security concerns are already significant.
Would you release equivalent CCTV footage of other presidential candidates of Mr. Obi’s standing who travel in private and presidential aircraft funded by taxpayers?
Should a leading presidential candidate not be accorded security protocols consistent with democratic best practices?
And you want every reasonable person to believe your fabricated narrative. Shame on you. You used to be a voice in the early 2000 little did I know it was all fake activism.
PETER OBI MUST APOLOGISE TO AIRPORT STAFF AND PAY THE FINE FOR WRONG PARKING
As the Minister of Aviation, I felt a moral duty to investigate and authenticate the claim made by opposition candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, a few days ago that the tyres of his car were ‘unjustly’ clamped at the airport, suggesting a ‘persecution agenda’ against him by the Federal Government. Politics aside, every Nigerian is entitled to fair treatment under the law.
I therefore instituted an internal inquiry over the issue.
Luckily enough, the entire Abuja airport is covered by CCTV cameras, real-time, 24/7. But apparently, this fact was unknown to Mr. Peter Obi. Otherwise, perhaps he would have been more circumspect before rushing to the media to cry ‘persecution’.
From the recordings, these are the facts:
1. On Saturday, July 4th, 2026, Mr. Obi arrived at the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at exactly 20:28 pm, driven by a Policeman. He alighted with two other occupants and went into the terminal building.
2. The Police driver then parked the vehicle, almost blocking the entrance and came out himself and went into the terminal building too. The airport rule is that, apart from the fact that it is a drop-off zone, a driver must remain behind the wheels of the vehicle for it to be tolerated for some time within that zone. Still the vehicle tyres were not clamped.
3. The Policeman came back to the vehicle at about 20:32pm and collected something from the vehicle and went back into the building again, leaving the vehicle unattended to.
4. At this point, the dutiful airport security staff came over and clamped the tyres of the car. In doing this, contrary to the claims by Peter Obi, nobody was inside the car and so nobody knew whether it was his car (not that it should matter, anyway).
5. When the Policeman returned again and discovered the tyres were clamped, he was directed to an office and upon getting there, he called Mr. Peter Obi on his phone and gave the phone to the manager. Mr. Peter Obi then introduced himself and spoke with the manager, peddled his ‘influence’ and requested for the release of the vehicle. His vehicle was then released without him paying the necessary fine.
6. It is important to note that the time the vehicle was parked unattended to in that prohibited zone was about 30 minutes, which constitutes a security risk at an airport by global best practices.
What has emerged from this is a clear case of an opposition candidate trying to whip up unnecessary sentiments for a wrong he committed with his driver. The excuse which Mr. Peter Obi gave that there were other offenders too on that day (which is completely false) cannot be an excuse for an individual aspiring to be President of Nigeria. He must live above board.
This is a matter that was not even mentioned at all by the airport authorities and had been put to rest. But ever determined to milk any situation to score cheap political points, Mr. Peter Obi decided to go on air to render a false narrative.
Therefore, he must also face the consequences of his actions. (I have attached the CCTV footages to this statement for the public to clearly see what transpired.)
In the circumstances, consistent with the principle of equality before the law, as Minister of Aviation, I make the following demands on Mr. Peter Obi:
1. That he tenders an unreserved, public apology to those hardworking, ordinary Nigerian workers at the airport, just doing their jobs dutifully and whom he sought to blackmail as his ‘persecutors’.
2. That Mr. Peter Obi voluntarily goes back to the airport and pay the appropriate fine of N25,000 for wrongful parking at the airport for which he used ‘influence peddling’ to bully his way out on that day. He cannot be bigger than the law.
If these demands are not met within one week, I will be giving the necessary directives to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to take the next steps against him.

CJN KEKERE-EKUN LAUNCHES NCMS & E-FILING AT SUPREME COURT, SAYS DIGITISATION WILL STRENGTHEN INTEGRITY, SPEED AND PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN JUSTICE DELIVERY
Abuja, Wednesday, July 1, 2026
The Honorable, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat M. O. Kekere-Ekun, GCON, yesterday formally commenced the implementation of the *Nigerian Case Management System [NCMS]* and the *Supreme Court [Mandatory Upload of Electronic Copies of Processes, Record of Appeal, and Other Matters] Practice Directions, 2026* at Court Two, Supreme Court Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.
Describing the launch as “a significant milestone” in the Supreme Court’s modernisation drive, the CJN said the Judiciary “cannot afford to remain on the sidelines” of the global shift towards technology in judicial administration.
Key Highlights of the Reform
1. Digitised Registry & Secure Records:The NCMS is designed to support the entire lifecycle of cases before the Court. It will reduce reliance on manual, paper-based processes and create a secure digital repository with a comprehensive audit trail to safeguard records against alteration, loss or misuse.
2. Phased Roll-out:Phase 1, effective immediately, makes electronic upload mandatory for appeals scheduled for hearing between September and December 2026.Counsel in those matters must upload all relevant processes and records within the timelines in the Practice Directions. Implementation will then proceed quarterly until all pending appeals are captured.
Phase 2 will introduce full electronic filing of processes, enabling litigants and counsel to interact with the Court through a transparent, technology-enabled system.
3. Integrity & Accountability:The CJN warned that “technology is only as reliable as those entrusted with its use.” His Lordship stressed that counsel must upload only authentic and duly authorised processes. “The Court will view any attempt to upload forged, altered, unauthorised or otherwise irregular processes with the utmost seriousness” and will impose appropriate legal, regulatory and disciplinary consequences.
4.ContinuousImprovement:Acknowledging that large-scale reforms face early challenges, the CJN said such issues will be used to refine the system. The Honorable CJN also disclosed that the Court is currently undertaking a comprehensive review and verification of pending appeals and records to strengthen confidence in its processes.
Tributes and Next Steps
The CJN commended the Judicial Information Technology Policy Committee [JITPO-COM], its Chairman Hon. Justice Kashim Zannah, OFR, the Rules and Litigation Committees of the Supreme Court, and the Chief Registrar, Mr. Kabir Akanbi, for driving the initiative to fruition.
His Lordship expressed optimism that the NCMS will “significantly improve case management, reduce administrative bottlenecks and enhance the overall efficiency of judicial administration,” while strengthening public confidence in the apex Court.
“The launch of the NCMS marks far more than the introduction of a new technological platform. It signifies a defining milestone in the continuing evolution of the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” the Chief justice declared, adding that the reform provides a model for adoption by other courts nationwide.
The Supreme Court reiterates its commitment to a modern, innovative and technologically resilient justice system anchored on the principles of justice, fairness and the rule of law.

Got to Gate 2, he asked me to unlock it once to claim it, did it & retrieved my phone.
