Early-stage Year 8 work, but it’s great to see students still designing and making with metals.
Hands-on skills, iteration, accuracy and problem-solving — things you only really learn by doing.
Practical D&T still matters.

Always impressed by the projects our schools take on to promote Design & Technology. ⚡️
This student-built GreenPower electric car showcases real engineering, teamwork and problem solving in action.
D&T at its best. 🚗🔧

In D&T exam answers, students need both the “what” and the “why.”
“What”: State the fact
“Why”: Explain the reason or impact
Without the why, marks hit a ceiling. With it, answers move into higher bands. #DesignAndTechnology#DTTeachers#GCSE#ALevel
Command words in D&T exams are not interchangeable.
Describe ≠ Explain ≠ Evaluate
Students often know the content but answer the wrong question — and lose marks. Teach them what each command word really requires. #DesignAndTechnology#DTTeachers#GCSE#ALEVEL
In D&T exams, connectives raise the ceiling for marks. “Therefore,” “this means that,” “as a result” turn points into explanations. Teach students to link ideas, not list them. #DesignAndTechnology#DTTeachers
A greatt Friday at our February INSET with inspirational D&T teachers — exploring electronics using our component tiles, mechanisms & Micro:Bits. Always amazed by their creativity. Excited to see these new units in Harris schools!

A long day, but a great one working with our fantastic @NatInstTeaching trainees. Today’s focus was electronics @Kitronik and how to embedd intelligence in products students make. @microbit_edu
This week Year 5 have refined their chopping skills by learning three new techniques. They learnt how to rough chop, dice and julienne potatoes and carrots 🥕 @HfedDesign_tech
Our year sixes have finished baking the bread, and have really 'risen' to the occasion!
They've followed the DT process step by step, conducting market research and creating prototypes, and many have spiced theirs up with garlic and paprika! @HarrisFed@HfedDesign_tech
