MP on the run after threatening to kill magistrate over unfavourable ruling in Sh500,000 debt
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya is wanted by the police for allegedly threatening to kill a Kakamega magistrate.
The MP is said to have confronted and threatened Resident Magistrate Gladys Kiama outside the court on Monday.
This was after she ordered him to pay a lawyer Sh500,000 in a small claims case.
According to the police, the MP has switched off his mobile phones and gone into hiding.
They have asked him to surrender and record a statement.
His aides have also claimed that they do not know his whereabouts.
Magistrate Kiama reported the incident to the Kakamega police station on Monday afternoon.
She said the MP had threatened to kill her before he fled.
She had just delivered a judgment in which she dismissed Salasya’s counterclaim against paying the debt.
The court found that the MP had borrowed Sh500,000 from a Kakamega-based businessman Robert Lutta in December 2022.
Lutta had lent the money to Salasya after he won the Mumias East parliamentary seat in the August 2022 election.
He expected the MP to repay the loan in two months, but he failed to do so despite frequent reminders.
Lutta sued the MP on October 23, 2023, through lawyer Edwin Wafula.
He attached bank transfer details to prove the transaction.
He also said he was ready to use the Civil Procedure Act to send the MP to civil jail if he continued to default on the debt.
The court ordered the MP to pay Lutta the Sh500,000 plus interest and the cost of the case.
The case lasted for less than two months.
Efforts to get a comment from the MP were unsuccessful.
For any government to navigate the treacherous plateaus and savanna of the 2010 constitution you need a group of competent lawyers that are paid the Wall Street shoe firms rates (2000 US $ an hour). Kibaki and Uhuru learn their lessons. H.E RUTO is painfully learning that lessons. Good lawyers are very expensive in Nairobi. When it comes to public law litigation, Courts in Kenya are one of the best in the world @Mosotah
We condole with the families of the victims of the ongoing intense downpour and flooding in some parts of the country. We are pained by the loss of lives in Kwale, Mombasa, Samburu and, lately, Makueni County among other places. The Government will act to secure Kenyans.

The first 500-acre trial crop in Galana. Great success. Next year, with the private sector, we will expand to 20,000 acres and progressively to 200,000 acres in 4 years. This is part of our food security plan to eliminate the shame of hunger from our motherland. Forward always.
In Chemuche in Malava Constituency. Kakamega is a vast county. The terrain sometimes is a challenge to even the 4W big ones. But not to be deterred, on bodaboda or on foot , we always get to the destination.
This girl bought an iPhone. When her father saw it, he asked her,
"What was the first thing you did after buying the phone?"
She replied "I put an anti-scratch sticker & bought a cover for the phone".
"Did someone force you to do so?",the father said, to which she replied "No".
The father asked another question "Did you think it was an insult to the manufacturer?" She said "No, it was actually recommended that a cover be used on the phone".
"Why cover it, is it that it's ugly or cheap?" asked the father. "No daddy, actually I covered it because I did not want any damage to it or what would devalue the phone", she replied
"I see, so when you put the cover on, did it reduce the iPhone’s beauty?", he asked again. "Daddy I think it looks better & worth it for the protection it gives to my new iPhone", she replied
The father looked lovingly at his daughter & said, “if I had asked you to cover your body which is much more precious than your iPhone would you have readily agreed?".
She was mute . . . .
Lesson: Indecent dressing & exposure of your body reduces your value. Learn OR perish!!!
