@MollyFeldman16 I found this to be a disturbing quote. It implies that he felt guilty about owning slaves. It is just crazy how he, and many others proceeded to own slaves long after knowing it was a terrible thing. #AuburnWorldHistory
I understand how terrible it is that the U of Chicago was est., founded, and endowed by a slaveholder, but isn't it a good thing it's no longer a plantation? I do not think the university should be punished for events that happened 200 years ago. #auburnworldhistory
The part that kills me is how slave owners deny they have slaves (or in this case say that their wife owns them), which implies that there was some guilt here. These people knew that what they were doing was wrong, and yet the continued to do it. $ is powerful #auburnworldhistory
@McveighMarissa Lol I was thinking the exact same thing! I really did not get a lot out of the article. From what I understand, big bad meanie capitalism is badπ‘ #AuburnWorldHistory
"So you get the capture of the Republican Party, and an attempt to undermine, to some degree, the Democratic Party." He says "undermine" like Democrats don't do this to Republicans too. It feels like all politics is, is "undermining" #AuburnWorldHistory
"...and why the Left still needs to be serious about ending capitalism," basically invalidated his entire argument. Idk why these people think this is a good idea, even though every example of "ending capitalism" has been a massive failure. #AuburnWorldHistory
I liked actually seeing the stuff that people were seeing during the time of the Cold War. I've always heard about how people felt, but I tried to imagine being in the American public's shoes in the 60's while watching. that really put things in perspective. #AuburnWorldHistory
It seems a bit inappropriate to make a lighter hearted movie out of a grim topic, but that was probably one of the motivations of making this film. #AuburnWorldHistory
I cannot begin to imagine how it would feel being a pilot or crewmember of a nuclear airplane. That is so much responsibility and guilt that you would have to take on. #AuburnWorldHistory
@hallbuice It would be interesting to compare how anxious people were then to now. We are pretty close to a nuclear war ourselves to be honest. The difference is it is not being advertised like crazy like it was during the Cold War. #AuburnWorldHistory
Why can African countries not come together now? Dr. Quao talks about the Berlin Conference being the reason that powerlines can't be connected over borders, but it seems like if Africa were to act as a whole, the continent could get a lot done. #AuburnWorldHistory
The boxing metaphor really threw things in perspective. Africa simply was not in the same weight class as Europe and the other countries that divided Africa up, and this had terrible lasting effects on the continent. #AuburnWorldHistory
@MollyFeldman16 I agree. She is extremely well spoken, and she does a good job of voicing the frustrations that I am assuming many Africans feel. #AuburnWorldHistory
I feel like the lasting impacts of the scramble for Africa are not talked about enough, and I think Dr. Quao does a good job of presenting this. #AuburnWorldHistory
It's kind of odd you do not hear a lot about black nationalism. It's always German, US, or Russian. This is an interesting read because of the fact that it's nationalism from an entire race's point of view. #AuburnWorldHistory
"Moody called for an immediate overthrow of the global white power structure in order to achieve universal black liberation... Moody demanded militant and urgent response to global white supremacy." But isn't violence where the "white power structure" started? #AuburnWorldHistory
@emmamooreau This says a lot about how low the quality life is there as well as how the continent is abused by other nations; the abuse is probably the cause for the low quality of life... #AuburnWorldHistory
